Apartment Lease Help!!!?

Ok so i signed an apartment lease... I wanted to get out of it before i moved in. The person is still living in the apartment. i just signed the lease 2 weeks ago. the landlord told me i had to pay $250 for the break lease fee and the monthly rent until someone moved in. In the lease it says nothing about having to pay any of this... do I have to pay? also, the landlord didn't even sign their portion... if that doesnt work, i have really bad asthma... and i read a ton of reviews stating that cigarette smoke seeped through the walls. can i get a doctors note to get me out of the contract?

Just don't pay. IF the landlord takes you to court, then you can try the lack of signature, cigarette smoke defense. The most you can be liable for is the REASONABLE time it takes the landlord to find someone else. Often the headache and cost of taking people to court deters them. For starters, they have to serve you papers to take you to court. Do they know where to find you?
