Are states invading the poors right to practice religion through the school systems?

There are those of us who take our belief in God very seriously and feel very strongly that God is not something just to be tossed aside for when there is time for him. Some of us feel that God should be worshiped every day and that we should thank him before every meal. There are those of us who believe that Gods word is the only truth and feel that the Theory of Evolution is Sack Religious.
OK, each state in the United States requires children to be educated. Fees are waved for parents who cannot afford to pay them. It is the state that requires children to receive an education, not the parents, although I am certain most parents would prefer that their children are educated, there are those who feel that religion is more important than an education. There is, for those who can afford it, Private Christian schools available. But what about those who cannot? What the parents who cannot afford to stay at home and educate their children themselves but do want their children raised in a religious environment? Are the States invading these peoples rights

Children are not prohibited from praying in school. What is prohibited is having the government representative, like the teacher or principal, leading the religious practice. As to teaching, the state requires that children get educated in certain subjects, but does not reguire religious education. You are free to get religious education where you want, but because the government does not require it, the government need not provide it. BTW, if you were really that big on religion, or on education, you would not use a phrase like "sack religious" |

Why don't you try getting an education before prescribing it to others? Try getting one in terms used within your own belief system, like "Sack Religious" lol.
That one was a gem.
This is a case of the blind leading the blind. Why don't you ask someone who has experienced edcuation, to lead you. |

No, at some point, it's just not cost efficient to allow each to have his or her own teaching point of view. That means that it is up to the parents, where it should be, to instruct the child in their faith and to counter some of the crapola being put out in public schools |

I find more offensive the fact that an ideology such as evolution could be taught in public schools, for surely it embodies everything that is used to define religion - not least of which is faith, and a lot of it, for it is not substantiated in science.
Liberalism and its creation theory (evolution) is a religion, and as such should be barred from public schools rather than being adopted as a state religion, which is against the constitution. |

Religion is supposed to be separate from the state. Teach them your beliefs on your time and money, not mine. I would rather have a country full of educated non-religious citizens instead of uneducated religious zealots. |

Children are in school for what, seven hours a day? That leaves 17 hours per day, plus all day Saturday and Sunday, plus every day during summer vacation, available for parents to teach religion, creationism, and whatever else parents feel was left out of the public school's curriculum.
I would hardly call it an invasion of rights. |

Freedom of Religion is acknowledge in schools but the separation of church and state disallows schools to teach religion.
And children have the right to an education but the private religious schools have nothing to do with a state education, which is the type of education guaranteed to all children. They are privately owned schools so they aren't state-run. If you want your kids to have a religious education, take them to Sunday school. Not everyone is religious and because there supposedly is a separation between church and state, it isn't the government's problem. It's yours.
PUBLIC school is for education, like math, science (like the PROVEN evolution), English and history. Church is for religion. If you want a religious education, cough up the money for a PRIVATE, religious school, go to Sunday school or teach your own kids. It shouldn't be the state's problem to have to accommodate all the different religions. |

How do you figure? the child is still free to pray before their meals even in a public school, they are allowed under law to do this. The parents still have every right to teach their child at home their own religious beliefs. I do feel though that the schools have gone too far to remove things that is not done on school time, such as lunch time religious gatherings, which at one time was common in most every school. It is not the state that has removed this, but organizations like the ACLU and others who seem to think it is a great idea to make everyone the same through a false belief of the separation of Church and state, which has nothing to do with an individuals right to express their beliefs. If you want to find blame, look to the organizations that claim to be protecting freedoms, while removing them. |

There needs to be a separation of state and church it is the basic tenet of the founding of democratic nations. America was founded by persons escaping from religious persecution, among other reasons.
The state must provide education chances to your child. It is up to you to indoctrinate your child with whatever religious belief you feel is proper. Sending them to church or Sunday school is inexpensive and is the only way to ensure that there is a separation of state and church.
if you can not afford to send them to private school that is your problem not ours.
I do not want your religion taught to my kids and I do not want my religion taught to your kids. |

All children are entitled to a tax supported education in public schools. There are entitled to nothing else. |

no.
Im amazed that the US does not separate state and church.
It is a great nation founded on diversity, freedom of speech and different beliefs.
If you start preaching whatever religion in public schools, you are invading other people's rights. So the government needs to stay neutral because of the country's cultural diversity.
It is up to each family to teach whatever doctrine or spiritual beliefs they have to their children, not the state. |

Sometimes, a government must be reminded that its citizens are not here to serve the law. I agree with your point of view. |

You have another choice. It's called home schooling.
You can also indoctrinate your children to reject anything that is not religious. To become close minded to others' point of view and to shun anyone who is not like them.
It is possible to be with people who are not like you and still be religious. Your children can still say a silent prayer before their lunch meal at school. Your children can even play with atheist's children and they won't burst into hell's flame.
Do what you feel you need for your children, but don't displace the blame on the State. |

To answer your question: no because the children can still say their blessing over their lunch and many states allow student led prayer. The teachers are not supposed to talk about God although my sister did in front of her 5th graders, she never got in trouble. The teachers are not supposed to indoctrinate the children. I know if my daughter had a muslim, or hindu teacher I'd be highly upset if they tried to indoctrinate my child so the same theory must be applied to children of all faiths that have a teacher of a different faith.
I do however feel that the states are trampling my ability to send my child to a private Christian (or any type) school by forcing me to pay over $2000/year in property taxes which is supposed to go to the crappy gov't run schools in my area.
