Are there any legit places to get a criminal background check on someone?

I know there are tons of sites that advertise this, but I think alot of them are probably scams. Anyone know of a completely legit site where I can pull a background check on someone? I'm willing to pay as long as it's legit

YES, (http://www.whitepages.com) has a people search and they will give you enough info on the person so you can confirm that you have the right one before you order, they are the least expensive that i have found.~
