Are we living in a namby pamby nation?

Here are a few examples of sheer stupidity i come across.

Ha ha ha! Every kids has burned their bum on a hot slide! It's part of learning that shiny metal things in the sun get HOT! I've never heard of anyone requiring medical attention for the "injuries" sustained on a hot slide....thank you for the laugh.

Don't feel bad though, America is just as wussy when it comes to these kinds of things. We also are really afraid of "offending" people, so we're continuously apologizing for nothing....sorry if I wrote too much...just kidding.

there have been a few similar questions today. yes. i agree with your statement. our nations are too H&S orientated and follow silly guidelines. burning myself on my wok when i cook is character building as i'll try to prevent it happening again. I dont want someone demanding i wear a safety suit.
and as for cleaners... will they have to wear biosuits when cleaning student accomodation?

I know exactly what you mean, where we are the children aren't allowed to play in the snow!!! or the leaves in the playground. Hardly fun, or teaching them about risk and spontaneity

The trouble is that there are too many people employed now in looking for ridiculous things to ban. It has become a big employer of beaurocrats, therefore it has become self perpetuating. Also, as another person has said, we now have this blame culture imported from the USA where greedy weasel lawyers will push any claim however stupid in the hopes of making money. At the same time, we see our streets becoming more dangerous every day, with guns and knives an ever present threat. It is enough to look at some murderous moron in order to get stabbed or shot for no other reason than to give the fool a 'rep' among his peers. The authorities can't stop the influx of guns, and refuse to stop the influx of the kind of people who use them. Therefore they do futile things in order to give the impression that they are 'Doing Something'.

cant agree more contrast the pics splashed all over the papers, video shown in the media of public figures missbehaving with another ( unaware they can be observed never mind filmed) with the people told they could be prosecuted for having video evidence of crimes being committed. while the criminal walks as that is the only evidence and cannot be used to convict them.

the state of this country is epitomised by the silly site of grown men wearing hard hats goggles and industrial boots etc, stood in the middle of a green field that has just obtained planning consent ,and is now categorised as a construction site ,usually some numpty tv reporter conducting an 'interview, and no one has yet even turned over a sod of earth, says it all about this elf n safety culture we live in, so yes it has become namby pamby with bells on!

Love the question , I feel exactly the same.... it starts from day one can you imagine if during the world wars if someone had said that fighting was too dangerous for young people ( and some were very young) and that people could not go to war...
in those days people accepted the world for the sometimes cruel place that it is, they did not run from it..

We seem to live in a society that thinks the world should be some sort of utopia ... and that anything that even looks like it might go against this is wrong.... people seem to feel death is unnatural, people have lost sight of common sense, nobody wants to get hurt and most people learn to avoid it but it is only through taking a few knocks and falls in life that we learn..
I just wonder what has made people this way .. can you imagine how children born into this world will cope with life...
