It is sad that we have strayed so far from free market principles. We have also strayed from the basic principle of responsibility. At least half of the people look up to the government like little children look up to their parents. This is just one instance where people cry out and say "that's not fair", and then demand government go and get those evil businesses.
It first shows contempt for the free market, the best, most efficient way to deliver goods and services. The same free market that would have allowed them to stock up on whatever good they needed while the demand wasn't high and the price was lower, but they chose not too.
Like on the Gulf Coast, hurricane season comes at the same time every year, yet people irresponsibly don't buy generators or extra water or food, and when they badly need it after the storm hits, they put the guy that brings them what they desperately need in jail. Would they rather the guy not be there with the goods? They were not responsible enough to prepare for the hurricane season, so this guy is making up for it. And please don't blame the seller for the thirsty children. The parents are totally to blame by not buying enough water in advance. The seller is making up for the parents' irresponsiblity.
The market price works best because it stops people from buying it all up in the beginning. When a product is sold at a below market value because of a government mandate, people buy it all up. Then people pull up to the gas station and whine again that no gas is there, the same at the grocery store. The same with hotels, the higher price makes people buy less rooms, thus efficiently leaving more rooms open for other people.
It just makes me sick when I see how pathetic so many people have become and how far this country has fallen when about half of the population will in a second cry out to the government to "save" them without taking any responsibility for themselves.

Who makes people buy cars? Average motorcycles get 60 miles per gallon. Scooters get over 80.
I ride a motorcycle myself. It also makes insurance cheap.

price gouging goes on in BIG oil where there SHOULD be a gasoline seller undercutting everyone to get all the customers, but since they collude, the all keep the prices high and gouge

Well I think BP a private company just showed us the we can`t have a government smaller then the biggest companies, the free market can`t fix their own problem without the peoples big government. But I do wonder if we finally got a spill big enough for the free market to create demand for safer equipment. I think we should use big government to make companies buy the best equipment before they drill. Or use BIG GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS to make companies drill relief wells BEFORE they drill. BP has proven to the American people that conservatism is a reactive system. |
