Are you anal if you follow the law?
|
I don't speed, I don't smoke weed, I do not go driving if my a.c content is even .001. I do not like to violate policies...like sneak into a pool after its closed..or sneak into a movie without paying.
When I took a job in college as security I was unbending when it came to rules...i wouldn't let people in the pool after hour, would not let people drink publicly....or anything against the rules...I didn't go crazy and yell at them..just told them "hey c'mon you can't do that here"...some people say I'm being anal retentive..but I don't think its anal obeying the law..what do you think?

No, you abide by the letter of the law. The interpretation of others formulates their opinion of you. Some will agree and even go beyond what you do enforcing policies and rules while others take a more relaxed approach.
Make sense?
There are three types of people; robocops, lawmen, and friendlies...you fall under the category of lawmen. |

I think you are smart. Years from now, all those that are calling you anal, will not matter. What will matter is when they go to do a background search and yours comes up squeaky clean. You can have lots of fun without breaking the law, and it will cost you less. |

You are just following your rules - you're not being anal; you are trying to live a safe, peaceful life. |

rules and laws are made supposedly to protect people and guidelines for their behavior, but, some times rules and laws need to be broken, but only when there is good cause, for instance, if you were going to the hospital with a seriously injured person it might be best to speed, but, not to the point where you are endangering some one else or your self, a good cop should have the foresight to make a decision as to if breaking this rule or law is necessary,or would it even make a difference, by breaking this rule or law are you endangering some one or something? |

If you wash your mouth out with Listerine, you'd have a b.a.c. of .001, so that makes you a little anal since it's not illegal. You have your own rights and beliefs, however. If you don't want those you are protecting violating any laws or regulations that are written; you are perfectly right! |

You are showing signs of anal R. When you put a small minded person in charge, they want to stick to the letter of the rules so that they feel in charge.
Rules only define a partial area of activities. For instance a rule that says you are in overall charge or orderly behavior just means keep an eye on things so they don't get out of hand it does not mean bossing people around.. So If some student is drinking vodka and they look ok and make no trouble then you don't butt in. Chill out a bit. Maria w is quite right, some rules are outdated or just garbage.
Like when we had the 11pm alcohol laws, some people would not sell a can of beer at 11.05pm and I always said it is stupid and that's what anal is. If there are no obvious cops around then it is ok to sell at 11.05 because watches are not tied together there are differences.
So an annal always says its 5 mins past. But how do you really know. An anal would phone up the speaking clock to prove himself right - ignoring the wishes of the owners or shareholders in the process. So satisfying yourself means displeasing a lot of others.
But look at the big picture. The alcohol laws were thrown out on proper review so the people who made the original laws were wrong. Understand all that mate? |

I'm with you but sometimes I feel like a fool. I see laws routinely ignored.
Then I hear the interpretation people. The speed limit is 65 MPH. Now HTF do you interpret that to be 110 MPH. Sorry but when trying to have an intelligent exchange with a moron things can get ugly. And I see some answers here that have erupted from an orifice of an idiot/s.
No sir. I will obey the law.
What pisses me off is the total lack of enforcement. The only robber apt to be caught in my town is the one robbing the donut shop.
Now I will sit quietly and await the violation notice. |

You did the job you wer paid to do.
You respect the rules and you don't let people bully you into being stupid.
Some rules in life will have to be bent from time to time so don't be too tight *** about rules.
Like, No parking near an emergency entrance to a hospital does not apply when you have an injuried person in your car. |

That's your job to enforce the rules. Don't jeopardize by trying to be nice. Also, stick to your personal rules. Everyone needs to obey the law. |

I think the students of today don't have a clue what thier gonna do when their time comes to take over things. And law enforcment should stand up to them.Bust their little @$$es and let daddy pay em out of it. I know what your sayin.Get tougher. |

Depends on what the rule is. If all rules were absolute, there would be no room to learn from our mistakes (the tough part is knowing the difference). There is a lot to the concept of officer discretion, and we all live by our own book of rules. Social norms created and formed in our own minds by our own personal experiences.
William Saroyan:
"Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know."
You may be anal retentive if you carry these rules around with you and live life strictly by the book, caring little for the wisdom gained through random mistakes. |
