Are you for or against the death penalty? give reasons?

:)

I think if a person has proven that he will kill, and especially kill more than once, then rather than risk this guy possibly escaping and killing more innocent victims, I'd rather him sit on the electric chair.
I think it's ridiculous how long Charles Manson has sat on death row, while we feed him, house him, bathe him, and listen to him tell reporters how he's so proud he killed, and would do it again.

Very much for, because it does deter crime. Never in history has anyone committed a serious crime after being put to death.

They have voted democrat for many years after death, but that's usually only a misdemeanor in most cases.

im for it, main reason is because there have been cases in the past where convicted killers have escaped and been let free, and killed again...

For it!
There are monsters out there that deserve nothing less!

RP McMurphy, Freethinker
I am in favor of it solely for the opportunity for the victims' families to watch the perp die a horrible death, i.e. revenge. My only beef with it is that today's execution methods are too wimpy, they need to become more medieval (hanging, firing squad, burning at the stake, stoning, etc.)

nanaofrhianna2001
Definitely FOR!
I don't feel that the US taxpayers should have to support criminals and that's exactly what we do now. They do the crime and we support them just like a previous post stated...they get room & board, 3 squares a day...showers...I could go on and on.
Seeing as my taxes are being spent on these people, men & women alike, then why shouldn't Americans be allowed to take a tax credit or claim at least one for a dependent?
Isn't the saying, "An eye for an eye?"

Ashley.
What all prisoners deserve, is what they have done to others.

I am in favor of the death penalty. My reasons: The death penalty is a major deterrent to potential murderers. And because law abiding citizens deserve a safe place for their family to live. It is also allowed by the U.S. constitution, and decided state by state.

Against. What purpose does it serve? It certainly doesn't stop crimes being committed.

Against.

-A life in prison is much worse than lethal injection.
-Execution (including all legal fees and other expenses) typically cost about 200 Million Dollars for taxpayers - where a life sentence costs about 6.
-A study done by the Sacramento Bee (March 28, 1988) suggests that California would save $90 million per year if it were to abolish the death penalty.
-$78 million of these expenses are occurred at the trial level and would not be reduced by shortening appeals.

No, just for very very very severe punishment and indefinite imprisonement. That will teach em.

Against it. I wouldn't want the job of being the one to do the killing of an inmate and I don't feel anyone should be forced to do that job.

Not really-

I mean- If it was a slow- hard- and painful death, then it would be better

(beheading, duh not really around- for ex- I would be against- b/c of course it would not be a punish, ment)

Exiled (jail time) until they want to be human again.

im in the middle
of course you feel someone should die if they kill a old woman or something
im against if they dont have atleast 95% of evidence that proved the person did the crime

Against. You don't have to sympathize with criminals or want them to avoid terrible punishments for terrible crimes to ask if the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime, to look at alternatives and to think about the risks of executing innocent people.

128 people on death rows released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.

We have a good alternative, life without parole, on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.

The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs (before and during the initial trial) of legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.
