It's the companies fault. Lack of competition. They shouldn't be employed in jobs where they meet the public. |

I thought it was the other way around - I've heard some shocking stories about bus drivers being abused. And racially too - being called dogs, etc.
If there's a specific problem, complain to the company. But generally, I've only come across polite bus drivers. And I wouldn't get onto a bus with only a £10 - that's stupid. |

no is my answer.ive never been abused by a driver in this way.i have seen plenty been abused by passengers. Youths mostly ,who are loud abusive threathening etc.Its a tough enough job,the drivers are not perfect but are like most other people under stress.Report the bad ones of course but understand that the deal with thousands of people weekly |

Having worked in a shop And a London Underground ticket office it never ceases to amaze me how some people appear to think that change grows on trees. If 6 or 7 people in a row have a £10 note for a very small purchase that is your entire float gone and you have to start asking people for the exact money. If you intend going on a bus you should prepare for it by having some change. If you examine the law of the land, you will find that there is no legal requirement for a vendor to give change. If he/she doesn't have change then the transaction cannot proceed. If you get on the bus with a £10 note that the driver has no change for, he is legally entitled to ask you to leave the bus |

They do seem to be worse now than they used to be,but you try doing that job for a while and you'll know why they get so bad tempered. |

Unfortunately you have to always make sure you have change for your bus fare, or just go buy a ticket from the shop. You can't expect the bus drivers to carry a bucket full of change around.
But I know what you mean about the machines not working and so on, I lost my money for a day card last week in one of the machines and then ran out of change - the machines are always faulty in my experience. I did get a refund though, and some complimentary bus tickets for the bother.
Some bus drivers are miserable, but I think some have the right to be - they put up with so much hassle and abuse from the chav yob culture and rude people these days, I have got up and defended bus drivers in the past. But if you are not rude to them they shouldn't be rude to you. Complain to the bus depot, but you need the bus drivers number, reg plate and time of bus to do so effectively.
I had a huge confrontation with a driver who was on his phone whilst driving in central London for about 50 minutes in the rush hour traffic, he was missing stops and driving in the wrong lanes etc. He got so angry that I dared to ask him why he didn't stop at the bus stop I and others wanted that he did 3 emergency stops (the bus was heaving) and punched the drivers change screen 3 times at me, it was over the top, and clearly he had problems - needless to say he got the sack.
It's all about respect - it works both ways - but driving a bus has to be one of the most stressful things in London so I have sympathy with them. Livingstone won't do anything - he is a waste of time - he will tell you to contact the bus company. |

Unfortunately, I think that some bus drivers can get a bit paranoid, because of the verbal and sometimes physical attacks on them, just for doing their job.
How would you like to deal with a bunch of miscreant yobbos late at night (on your own)?
If you don't like it, vote with your feet. Don't they still have a tube in London? |

No. I don`t live in and never want to live in that part of the country.
The bus drivers up here where I live are (men/women) very polite and well-mannered.
London is a joke city. |

Ive never really encountered a bus driver who was rude to me personally but on the 63 route ESPECIALLY 5 times out of 10 the bus driver will turn off the engine and just sit there. Sometimes they really abuse their power.... |

I can't stand London bus drivers. Not only are they rude, I'm also extremely shocked that they have driving licences, as none of them seem to know how to drive |

I'm from Scotland but bus drivers in general are idiots. First time when i was about 12 or 13 getting on the bus on my own the driver shouted "if you start on this bus the day am throwing u off", then put his hand under the plastic and tried 2 grab me. Then another one i was just sitting looking out the window and he accused me of stealing his T hammer. He had the whole bus looking at me. Like a steal T hammers, idiot. Quite glad i egged a few buses when i was small now.
I have to give a shout out to you for getting a plan of action and not just complaining about it. The fares are a joke aswell. They put a 5p on at the end so instead of just putting a £1 coin in you have to look around for change. They make it hard on purpose i think. |

yes Goldenra they are just that!! but here in UK what Elfo is saying is the truth they are so arrogant you feel you just don't wish to get on their bus and some taxi drivers are not a lot different but strangely enough Goldenra a lot of your taxi drivers in NYC can be very sarcastic |

I've taken the Metro here in Cincinnati almost every day for the last 16 yrs, and the motormen are fairly professional. Every problem I've ever witnessed resulted from some maladjusted imbecil acting out or displaying what passes as assertiveness in some quarters. |

The answer to the question is no
I find them helpful and understanding and have never really had a problem
However after reading your rant and noting the self importance you express in the last sentence, I could well imagine you having a problem with them and indeed other people you meet in your daily life.
