My daughter's best friend (15 year old female) has lived with us for the summer of 2009 and 2010. This past summer she asked if she could stay with us and her father agreed, but he said he did not have any money to help us. We kept her anyway, still lives with us (March 2011) and since then the child has revealed a long history of being left home alone when she was younger so her father went go gamble and most times did not have food at the house to eat. The condition of the home is horrid. She admits insect infestation is a problem there at her father's house. Her grandmother use to care for her most of the time, but she died the summer of 2009. She was doing poorly in school and called multiple times for us to pick her up as she was waiting for her father to pick her up at school and he never showed. She is now doing well in school and has not been on AB honor role since 3rd grade per her. She is happy here, but her father is threatening to take her home. She gets very tearful when he calls. She report he is emotionally abusive. She has an adult sister that report severe abuse in the past and threatening the mother to give him sole custody and she sustained multiple beatings until she finally gave him cutody. The mother lives in Dallas, but we are unaware of her whereabouts. The sister is happpy that her sister is living with us and reports a different, and very happy child during their last visitation Mardi Gras weekend. She lives 3.5 hours away. Any advise?
