Bob Spink MP for Castle Point has said that more criminals are black. What do youi think?

how stupid especially the people who are saying its a fact. The only reason more black people are in jail then white people is because white police officers racial profile and arrest more black people than anyone else. Iam not however saying that some black people didnt do the crime but are justice system is all screwed up. So if its a fact then we need to look at the reason why it is.

I think the media may be trying to generate another Tories = racists story, and of course 'shocked' Labour spokesmen will be happy to encourage it. There were recent official figures saying blacks made up a majority of those known to the criminal justice system, or something like that, and he was referring to that. The fact that he has a mainly white constituency has no bearing on his 'right' to comment on it - are you saying only the tiny minority of MPs with predominantly non-white constituencies can speak about this? A member of parliament has a right to speak about any aspect of the justice system.

That depends on how the word " crime " is used, cause there are alot of white men in the goverment and they are all criminals!

Lies, damned lies and statistics! He's using media style interpretation of statistics. To say 'most' criminals are black seems inflammatory and a top line stat with no delving into what's behind the numbers; I bet I could say that most white collar crime is committed by white people BUT how much white collar crime is reported, how much is 'victimless' and how much is policed? I'd like to see the absolute numbers to see what Bob Spink was basing his comment on. As an MP I guess he has the right to express an opinion BUT he represents a large number of people and those constituents should be the ones who should sanction him if needs be. What is really needed is an open debate on the causes of crime and if indeed there is a disproportionate element from the black community then our leaders need to address the root causes such as (social)education, community spirit, poverty etc etc to nip it in the bud. I'm no bleeding heart liberal, we need corporal punishment back on the statute books in my view BUT prevention has to be better than cure, especially if the 'cure' doesn't work!

But now the media needs to scrutinize what he said in relative terms. For example, there may be more black criminals than whites on a per capita basis, but is this a function of skin color or something else? I would venture to guess that the ratio of impoverished criminals to non-impoverished criminals is much higher than the ratio of black to white criminals, and it just happens to be the case (as it is in most western nations) that there are more black poor than white poor on a per capita basis.

There have been a lot of race issues lately, one today was of police officers circulating a picture of a black man decapatated. These police officers are going to be patroling the streets, any black man is going to be fair game whether they run or not. With these sort of things happening i wouldn't believe anything any newspaper or government says. Makes me want to run down the recruiting office to fight against Muslims in the war on terror. Don't you?

His comments were reported out of context and he was just repeating stats that actually came from an official report.

Never heard of Mr Spink. but what he said is that percent of population there is more black criminals than white criminals in prison that is an indisputable fact... and he has every right to say so

Of course Bob has the right to comment! Everybody has the right to comment; which is why we recognize freedom of speech. As for his remark about blacks constituting a high percentage of criminals, he is right. The prisons are full of blacks and Hispanics with fewer (numerically) whites. I have a son who works in state corrections and he said Hispanics are rapidly becoming the majority of prisoners, replacing the blacks who currently make up the majority.

statistics show and this is state and federal, that blacks commit almost 80%of all crimes in the U,S, yet they only number app, 12%of Americas population, but, if you say that you are not being politically correct and you are a racist, bigot, or a number of other things not nice of course,

Unfortunately it seems that way.

Its not just blacks though. You just have to watch Crimewatch. Nearly all of the 'wanted' criminals whose photos they show are black or 'foreign'.
