Yes the death penalty should be brought back. Scientific evidence is such that miscarriages if justice are very rare . The age old excuse that an innocent person might be killed is far outweighed by the injustice that infects our country today. Murderers do not deserve the tax payers pound to keep them and neither do child rapists. There is no deterrent against any crime at present and the judiciary must be made to use the full force of the law until the death penalty is returned. Enough of this mamby pamby attitude ...they forfeit there right to life when the ruin someone Else's. |

If a murderer knew he would die if he was caught there would be a lot less murders. |

Or they could opt for being used for scientific research..
It's a waste of a human body otherwise and would give far more accurate results and save the lives of innocent animals..
All violent criminals should be given the choice of being used for Scientific Research..But for a long time and have no choice in the experiment....Only if there is no Doubt of their guilt..
Hangings too good for them....But they can still be released if in the future if they are found to be Not Guilty..With Massive Compensation from Drug Companies and Govmt.
And for people who are against capital punishment...What is the other option?
What if they killed your wife or child...It's easy if it has never happened to you. |

All for it ,but the police, and judges and jury must be 100% with their decision |

of course we should. You can't have an entire justice system based on " but what if we are wrong". Why not spend the 19 billion that the big sports day is going to cost on developing techniques or technology that can prove things 100%. |

I don't see how we can use killing as a punishment for killing?
But how can we look to Islamic nations when we are outraged about how they deal with crimes now?
We need tougher prisons and longer sentences. Get rid of TVs from cells, bring back hard labour. |

Exactly, we have gone from a God fearing nation to a Socialist nation in less time then most of us are old ! For example, most of the personal friends like me that went to Woodstock, are today known as " Yuppies, well-to-do or rich". It didn't take us very long doing manual labor jobs to exist, to go back to school and get some insight on bettering ones self and family. A person who kills violently another deserves a painless death? That surely must be a Liberal plan. God Bless America.... |

Yes i think they should bring it back with DNA and science in this day and age it wont be very often they get it wrong.
This country is too PC like you say in her own country she would have been killed for alot less. What about the English teacher in Sudan who faces 40 lashes for letting kids call teddies Mohammed. Our country is too soft on crime this is why there is so much of it what is there to deter criminals nothing a £500 fine or 30 days in prison whoopie |

yes this country is too PC its pathetic. Yes if you do a horrific crime like that you need to fry. |

I hear what you say but with justice being what it is in England I wouldnt like the death penalty reintroduced because they so often get it wrong. Just look at Colin Stagg - that man would be dead now if the death penalty were in force and yet ho-hum, 15 years later they find he was innocent after all. Bit late when he's dead heh ???
I would prefer to see life meanig life and the prisoner doing a life of hard labour xx |

i agree, the benefits of a harsher law system would be good but there would be draw backs, for example if i was arrested for something that i didn't do and i got the death sentence then i would be executed for nothing and the real culprit would be roaming free causing more havoc. although i do agree that this county is too PC, and that woman who only got 14 years- she deserves more, i don't know why anyone would want to defend her?
i would say that some people don't deserve to live with some of the things they have done and with that i would back the death penalty. or at least a harsher law system than what we have now. |

absolutely. the perpetrator (as in many other cases) is nothing more than vermin. he should be killed by the harshest means. no bullet/gas/electrocution/lethal injection, these things would cost us tax-payers money. nail him to a post & bait him. dogs will eat for free. plus, he'd die screaming & in pain like his victim. there lies true justice. |

I don't think it would work. There have been too many mis-carriages of justice in this country already, but life should mean life with no chance of ever getting out again. |

If i was one of the heart-broken reliatives I would probably kill the murderer myself, by my own means. So does that mean I should fry too? |

How about they sentence them to death publicly, but really just send them to a high security prison where they will never b allowed out of. If they have no outside ocntact then no-one will ver b any the wiser, also then no-one else will think of themselves as a murderer, for killing the murder
or yh, just bring it back and watch them all die |

No. The criminal justice system is not infallible, and innocent people would likely be put to death by the state.
Secondly, the death penalty does not deter crime.
There are three reasons why murder is committed: passion, compulsion, and greed.
Those who murder in passion will not be swayed by anything because they are in the moment.
Those who are compelled are psychopaths without rationality and cannot be swayed by fear of death.
Those who kill out of greed tend to be convinced that they are too smart to be caught, and will get away with it, seeing no need to consider any legal implications.
Bringing back the death penalty won't change anything, except putting the power of execution in the hands of a state whose tendency is increasingly authoritarian and anti-civil liberties. |

i think that it was a stupid punishment to even open up. i don't think that they should bring it back at all. i think it would be a horrible way to die and i just don't think it is very humane. so no. i think it would be one of the most ridiculous decisions ever made in this country. |

no ii'm againest death penaity for this simple reason i don't believe noone has the right to kill anothing person, the death penaity don't do something,it won't bring that person back to live, there just asa guity as the the person who killed someone, think living what u did rest of your life is more fitting.. |

The death penalty doesn't accomplish anything. All it does is perpetuate a cycle of revenge and barbarism. |
