My supervisor constantly tells me I need to work out and go on a diet. I'm like MAYBE 10 pounds overweight, but it's none of her business. Is this illegal? I feel like my next comment to her is "Stop the comments about my weight or I'm filing a lawsuit." Do i have any merit? Could I file a lawsuit. I do a great job, and all she speaks about is my weight. It's humiliating. Thanks.

The first step is to tell her to stop harrassing you at work or you will speak to her supervisor. Keep a record of everything. The company has to know what is going on so they have an oppournity to stop it. Keep records....You do have merit. Good luck.* |

Have you tried just the first part of that statement yet? Tell her to stop hassling you about your weight, without threatening her, and see if she stops. |

Unless you live in Michigan which specifically has laws preventing weight discrimination in the work place, you don't have a case.
I would however report the harassment to your Human Resources, and maybe your bosses boss. Harassment of any sort should not be tolerated, for the simple fact that the more professional the environment, the more productive the staff. |

what she is doing is considered harassment. ask her politely to stop bothering you. if she continues file a grievance with the company. if it continues after that then seek legal help |

Contact an attorney. Consult with her whether you have a good case to sue. If so, do so.
(bleep) the job. It's not worth it if you are being harassed like that. |

To give you a little confidence you should check out what the laws are for your country.
For example, I know in Australia this would be illegal. There are workplace laws that prohibit harassment, bullying and lots of other things. It doesn't matter what the topic of harassment or bullying is (age, gender, weight, race etc) it's still illegal.
Might be worth asking her to stop at least once, you should also have people in your work that you can talk to without taking it down a formal route straight away. But whatever you do, don't let it continue, you'll end up hating your job and your job is probably fine, it's just one person being an ***.

Talk to her. Explain how her comments make you feel. If she continues, go above her head and report her for abuse. No one should have to work in that kind of environment.
As far legalities go, I have no idea if weight discrimination is against the law.
But I'm guessing that her superiors don't an abusive person in charge of valuable employees. |
