Can a landlord move your personal belongings without permission?

Can a landlord move your personal belongings without permission?

I rent an apartment in Iowa and my landlord left a note on everyones door stating that they would be entering within one to two days to check smoke detectors and change filters in each apartment. 3 days after I received the notice, My boyfriend placed his shoes on my doormat outside of the door before entering the apartment and must have left them there. When I came home from work, the shoes were inside my apartment. They also went onto my balcony and brought in the bag of trash that I placed there before I went to work, so my boyfriend could remove it when he came home(I am almost 4 months pregnant). They left me a note saying CANNOT LEAVE SHOES IN HALLWAY AND CANNOT HAVE TRASH ON BALCONY. I don't have a problem with them leaving me a note about it, but is it legal for them to touch any of my property without my permission??

Also they didn't enter my apartment in the timeframe that they mentioned on the original note, is that legal?
Additional Details
I'm not trying to get into a legal battle over a bag of trash and shoes, but I do want to keep track of things that are done by this landlord as I have seen them do other things to other tenants. I just want to make sure they are not doing anything wrong to ME.

Courtesy is at LEAST 24 hours notice. You knew they were coming and what for. They don't need to renotify you.

They bought the things in and left you a note. They were nice about it. They could have just as easily written both of those up as violations of your lease and fined you for them.

I'm virtually certain there are clauses in the lease that talk about how you're required to maintain the apartment. It might not SAY 'no garbage out in the open' but that's what it means.

Both the garbage and the shoes are probably against the fire code in your city...and he's doing you and him a favor by moving them. Neither one of you will be fined.

Your landlord gave you notice that he would be in the apartment, you're only renting it and he has an obligation to keep everything in good working order.

I'm sorry I can't actually answer your question.... but I do have a question for you. Are you sure you REALLY want to get into a legal battle with your landlord because he moved your bag of trash? Seems like a bad move if you don't have any other issues with him.
