Can a lie detector test come back inconslusive?

Absolutely!
The reliability of a lie detector test has never been scientifically proven.

In the U.S., even the admissibility of lie detector test results are controversial for court testimony. Some states allow it, some states give the judge discretion to allow it, and some allow the person who took the test to allow it.

But, the lie detector test is still used by many law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and defense attorneys.

Lie detector test only provides some help but it is not conclusive.

Yes. It is actually quite common. A lie detector test is measuring stress in response to the question/answer. If you react to a question in a stressful manner it can cause a false positive. When a test is conducted, the series of questions is asked multiple times and and responses are compared. If the responses do not "match" then the test is inconclusive.

Micky....the resurrection
