Can a underage person be in a bar legally?

It depends on the laws in your State.

Some States require a specific legal age before they can enter the door of a bar ... this is the reason so many underage people have fake ID's to get in.

Some places will allow minors if they are with their parents - but they are not allowed to drink alcohol.

Do an online search using the name of your State.

It depends on the state you live in. In some, a minor may not sit at the bar but at a table.

Stripe
In Ohio they can

angels_harp_2000
Depends on your city/state laws.

Here in Maryland for example, a minor may be accompanied by an adult, but can not SIT AT the bar. They can sit at a table.

Sweet Pea
Depends on the state and the law and the bar, but a lot of bars will let you in and just wont serve you drinks. You will not be able to get into a club or anything like that. It all depends on the bar though.. some will, some wont

As the other folks here with intelligence have stated: It depends on the laws of the Nation, State, County, and perhaps City in which that bar is located.

It may also depend on the decision of the owner: IF the law says a minor MAY be accompanied by a parent, the owner MAY have a posted rule that NO ONE under the age of 21 is permitted. This is typically done for the owner's own safety regarding his/her license, insurance, and peace of mind.

What you need to do is either give us your State and County.... OR do a internet search for "Alcohol Laws, "Your State, County".

Here in San Mateo County, California any establishment holding a liquor license without food-service may NOT permit anyone under the age of 21 to be on the premises.

YET, in Washington D.C., bars are legally all ages. They can't serve alcohol to anyone under 21, of course, and most choose to operate as 21-and-over venues, but there's no law against minors entering any venue that sells alcohol.

yes here in ireland you can be over 16 but under 18 and legally be in a bar and bought alcohol as long as you are with a parent. its an old law that has never been changed. other than that you can legally be in a bar with a parent up until 8 in the evening, or over 18 to purchase alchohol and ccigarettes at all in any off licence.

John O
depends on the state. what state are you in?

T.J.
It depends on what the law is in your state.
There could also be local city and county laws.

You will have to see that bar's license. Most places will let them in accompanied in certain areas until a certain time.

jeligula
It depends upon other services that the bar offers. If fish and game tags are sold there or the bar is operated in conjunction with a grill, then yes.

It depends...In some place yes you can but only during a certain hour.
Some bars wont let anyone under 21 in after 7, because thats usually when everyone starts going in to drink..

Gly
if the bar serves food then it's liquor licensing usually allows minors to be inside the facility with an adult in attendance.

personally i don't think allowing minors into a bar is a good idea because i've seen some unsavory situations take place when people have had too much to drink and start acting stupid.

cspanny
alot of bars allow underage people till a certain time at nite...yes legally

::.Just Jack.::
if they are accompanied by someone of the legal drinking age and are not administered alcohol most bars will allow minors to be present.

My mom used to work in a bar when I was younger and my sister and I would walk in at lunchtime to eat lunch with her and she would make us Shirley Temples :) I am not sure, really. I think it may be up to the bar owner, whether or not they want to risk serving underage people by letting them in.

Yes but it's down to the pub really. Some allow you to be in there a certain time, others don't allow you in without an elder and others allow you in but only in a certain section, like the food area

Yes, but they can't drink alcohol.

with their parent

Jacce
Its legal, but many bars won't allow it. Some bars will kick out minors at certain times of the night, too.

Blitz
Depends where and what venue.

For example, at sporting events people drink and kids are allowed to be there. Similarly, here in Canada we are thinking of serving drinks at movies theatres now. Kids can't buy the stuff, but they can watch the movies.

in mexico u can be 16 but in US NOPE i am 13 and i no this Q

An underage person can never get into trouble for being at a bar!!! As long as you don't use a fake ID or drink, then you will have no problems. Most bars check IDs at the door so they know that everyone inside is 21 and can drink. This saves them from the legal trouble they could get in by serving minors.

I am a bartender at a local bowling alley..We have a very nice bar and snack bar out by the allies..My question is this..They all of a sudden stopped letting kids in the bar area..They say it's illegal..But yet they want it to be a family establishment..We have many tables in the bar area for people to sit and have their food..So it's a catch 22, thwt want families in there but say no to the kids..This isn't right..Can't have it both ways..I've tried to look thi up online and I cannmot find it..Myu state is massachusetts..If anyoone here can help m,y out I would appreciate it...thanx...gail

Josh is right
How can there be a law stating who can enter private property? The law will state what the legal age is for somebody to drink in public places (outside your private home). Many private companies hold liquor licenses, and some are bars, some are pool halls, and others are both. Police have no enforcement powers to kick somebody out of private property unless they have evidence that the individual is breaking the law e.i. drinking underaged, damaging private property, etc. It seems like nowadays we are living in a socialist world in the West and people expect the gov to tell them what to do and what not to do. People are afraid of govs, but it should be the other way around!
