No! If he or she does do not do what is assigned and turn him or her in to your Dr. He or she will take care of it from there. Your boss is liable legally if anything happens to you while at work. Get better soon. |

Depends what 'full duties' are so it isn't that clear cut I'm afraid. 'Light duties' tends to mean no lifting etc so if you are typist for example then full duties would be acceptable. |

as far as i know...NO! If you are under your doctors care, your employer cannot force you to go against doctor's orders. |

They can't BUT if you were not injured on the job then your boss has no obligation to allow you to work light duty therefore has the right to lay you off. |

It depend on what the GP mean is it your grandparents or general practition . If this is a letter from your doctor then the answer is no . |

Unfortunately you now have little protection from the law in terms of employment rights and employers can do as they wish.
if you refuse to work due to illness, then even if you have a sick note from your GP your employer can take disciplinary action against you for unauthorised absence,
In the first instance this can come in the form of a " counselling session " which can then lead to verbal, and written warnings and finally dismissal
Many companies now use a completely unfair system with regards to employee absences called the Bradford factor.
Companies can get away with it because they know that if you take them to a tribunal you may have to wait up up to 2yrs before your case is heard and then for you to be able to claim compensation for loss of earnings due to losing your job.
Should you obtain another job then what you earn in that time is taken into consideration.
Until government make changes to employment law,giving stronger protection to employees then you as many others will be at the mercy of uncaring employers |
