Well he can't involuntarily hold you as that would a kin to false imprisonment. He can request that you stay late if he needs you, and you can choose to stay or go. If you choose to go, he could choose to fire you. |

You are not a slave and your employer can not force you to do anything. However if you otherwise like your job you pretty much need to do whatever he wants in regard to work hours. If you become uncooperative he has the right to terminate you.
You need to talk to him and explain why you need to leave by such and such a time and try to work things out. It sounds like your situation is just a misunderstanding that can be resolved. |

your employer can not force an employee to stay past their scheduled shift. Also, an employer can not fire you for leaving as this would be retalitory termination, the employer can not discriminate or ostersize an employee for excercising their RIGHTS as well. |
