Can anyone explain the law about breach of confidence?

Also can you explain a situation where the law applies?

I hire you to work as a sous chef in my new restaurant. I give you - in confidence - the recipe for my world famous barbecue sauce to use in your duties.

You tell the recipe to Gordon Ramsey. I can have a court enjoin him from using it in his restaurant, or putting it in his new cookbook.

You also tell the food columnist for the Times. I can have him enjoined from printing it.

BUT... if the reason you told the paper was that the recipe includes methamphetamine, then I can't enjoin the paper from printing that, because criminal activity cannot be held to be "in confidence" by the courts.
