Where I work, They are paid 92% of the regular hourly rate, for the first 6 months, 95% form months 7-12. Once they have been there 1 year, they are then on the established rate.

I routinely hire people for positions and everyone is negotiated with individually. Some people get more of a starting wage based on education, or past job experience, or potential for success.

It is totally legal and happens all the time.

Yes, since there is no law that prohibits it (only minimum wage). It all depends on what your employer sees "fit" to pay you and not what you see as "fair". The employer may find it necessary to pay another employee more since they have a better education, prior experience, etc. As long as they can make a profit/benefit from employing that person, they have the right to pay them whatever they want.

You could find a communist system. There you get the same whether you do just enough to get by or try hard to produce. Of course eventually everyone does only enough to just get by. Why kill yourself when you gain nothing from it.

Yep, employees with more experience or more time spent at a given company will ALWAYS make more than people with less experience or who haven't worked for the company as long.

of course, that is why employers do NOT want you to discuss wages with co-workers. It breeds resentment.

Yes, it is done a lot ~~longevity and also without a union? this makes it up to the management the pay scale. in some companies it is against company policy to discuss your pay scale because it would cause hard feelings

Yes - one has a year's experience with the company, one has four months'. People with the same job can get hired at different salaries. It just depends on each person's agreement with the employer.

Yes. The only federal standard for a wage, is that it must be at least minimum wage. There is no particular or specific criteria that an employer must meet. It may not seem fair, but it doesn't have to be.
Most work places have a rule in effect that you are not to discuss your wages. If you are caught doing so, some places resort to terminating their employees. If you want a raise...work harder.
