im 17 and i work at a rollerskating place. I called in sick, because my stomach was killing me. & the policy there is that you HAVE to find someone to work for you, or else you have to come in. I called everyone! and nobody could work for me or just woudlnt work for me and i was in bed with horrible stomach pains. And their gonna fire me becuase i had noone to work for me. Is there some kind of law that they cant do this, because i dont find this fair one bit at all......

If that was the first time, then I don't think they will, depends on how strict they are.
But don't do it again cause I can almost garantee you they will fire you next time! |

it depends on where you live! in arizona we're a right to work state so they can fire you for no reason at all if they want! so i think you may be screwed! sorry! |

Welcome to the world kid, its not always fair. They are perfectly within their legal rights to fire you for not being at work. I understand you attempted to find someone to cover for you, but in the end, that doesn't matter. They could have fired you even if you did find someone to take your shift. Call it a learning experience and find another job. |

If you agreed to that policy when you were hired, then yes. They can fire you. Your only other option is to get a note from a doctor that proves you were actually sick. I hate it when jobs make you agree to "policies" like that. Good luck though. |

Doctors notes, proof you asked, 'reporting them', all of that means bupkus. In most states, you are employed 'at will'. That means they can fire you whenever, for whatever reason. For failure to come in? Absolutely. For having a blue shirt on? Absolutely.
Is it fair? Not necessarily. Is it legal? Yup. |

unless you can't get a doctors and prove you called everyone, unfortunately you may be fired. some employers make it sound harsh so people will take the job seriously. |

If this is their policy then they probably can fire you so have your patent write a note. Also write a note advising everyone you called to ask them to work for you. Good luck! |

They can't do that. It is ultimately managements job to find a replacement or come into work themselves if someone is too sick. If they fire you I would threaten to report them for it. |
