Dress codes are not legislated- they are a matter of company policy.
if your boss has told you no to wear the shoes because the floors were redone and you like your job just don't wear the heels.
If it's hardwood floors- the heels will definitely damage the flooring if it's just been refinished. (my house has the original hardwood recently refinished)
It's really, not that big a deal- trust me your feet will thank you for switching to lower heels.
You know what else- now you have to go shopping for new shoes- how cool is that an excuse to shop. |

He's the boss. Nothing illegal about prohibiting high heels. |

Yep. He is the boss. And he has verbally notified you of a new dress code. No high heels. |

Ummmmm............. YES, he can tell you not to wear high heals anymore! He is the boss, and just because you did not have a dress code does not mean one can not be written and/or enforced. If you like your job, change your shoes. If you like your shoes, change your job. Simple as that!! |

He can pretty much dictate what he wants in regards to dress code. You will have to accept it or move on. |

It is not illegal. He is the boss. Why would you want to do something that you knows the boss doesn't like you doing? You can put on your heels when you go to lunch or leave the office. |

Well first off are you male or female. Have to go with the Boss on this one. You have to go by the golden rule, He who has the gold ,makes all the rules. |

Well that makes sense to me. If a certain type of footwear is damaging the floor, then it shouldn't be worn. Another reason for ruling out high heels is they are accident prone.
In today's society it is easier just to ban a potentially damaging or dangerous item, than to risk lawsuits. |

Yes..he can change the dress code. He would need to state it in a memo that goes out to everyone and everyone would have to sign and acknowledge the new addition to the employee handbook |

I don't feel like he can tell you what to wear an what not to wear unless it is a hazard. otherwise tell him to get him some business! plus a floor is made to walk on hell. its going to get messed up anyway! |

if you don't have a written dress code, talk to your boss about his reasons. if you can not come to an agreement, consult an employment attorney. |
