Can my company search my personal belongings in a locker and demand removal of legal items?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can my company search my personal belongings in a locker and demand removal of legal items?

Today my bosses boss came in and - without her knowledge - searched our (unlocked) lockers. Some of us had T-Shirts and other personal stuff in there and we were told to remove it? She even thew some stuff away which seems odd given that only half the staff were on the clock. Is this legal?

its their lockers they can go through them and do what ever they want with them locked or not its not YOUR locker

Sure is, unless you work for the government. Your freedom against unlawful search and seizure applies to protect you from the government. A private business has the right to go through your stuff if it is located on their premises. And they can fire you for pretty much any reason they want.

The one problem I note in your question is that it sounds like your employer threw away someone's personal property. That would be theft, which would be illegal. That person would be owed the value of the property destroyed. But it is perfectly legal for your employer to rifle through your stuff.

It may sound odd, but it's legal.

Yes. Employer to some extent has bailment-ish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailment obligations with respect to the contents of employees' lockers. Boss has certainly indicated in clear terms he doesn't want the responsibility. There are no doubt rules about what may be kept in the lockers. Work, after all, is not school or a TV police show.
