Im really mad right now, I just bought a laptop 4 months ago at Future Shop in Canada, it was brand new, i bought a 3 year warranty to go with it, i already returned it once, 3 weeks after i bought it because the power button and another buttong were lose they gave me a brand new one, and yet 3 months late it is still lose, and not only that but it freezes alot, and one day i installed itunes they computer told me to restart so i did, and when everything load it up, it says my computer doesn't have wireless capabilities, which is weird because before i restarted it, my was using the internet just fine. I reutrned it to futureshop to solve both the wireless issue and loose buttons again, and now they called me saying they cant do anything about it, i have to sent it to Sony and that my warranty doesn't cover it through Futureshop until a year after ive had the laptop than my warranty kicks in. why do they tell me to pay a three year warranty, when really i only get service from them for two years? So i have to pick up my laptop that they had for 4 days, only so they can tell me that they cant do anything about it, even though i have a warranty through them, so i have to pick my laptop, call Sony, Sony will send me a box, i have to send my laptop to them, and then they will send it back, so i most likely have to pay shipping and handling, backup my laptop myself because futureshop will charge me 80 dollars to do it for me, and probably wait like 1 month or two months for my laptop, and Im in school so i need my laptop and futureshop convinced me to buy a 350 dollar warranty, but yet they cant do anything for me.
Is there anything i can do, this doesn't even seem legal, they basically ripped me off, and i know that most people wouldn't just let them do this? any suggestions? as far as suing future shop or anything, cuz retail shops just cant be allowed to this, im thinking of going to the papers, i mean is there anything legal i can do? cuz this is not fair, im sure that if i fight this, something can be done about this, i dont know how much complaining to the manager will help, im sure the manager will defend its employees and tell me the same thing, i dont have money, thats why i bought the warranty so if i have any problems with it i wouldnt have to worry about it, this doesn't seem fair, anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately you are pretty much screwed.
Under the manufacturer's warrant they generally pay for the cost of shipping, however the manufacturers warranty is the only warranty you have currently, the future shop warranty is supplemental.
At this point I would deal with sony since you are working with their warranty.
Let them know that this is important to your school and see if they can ship you a loaner.
Most companies are willing to send out a loaner or make accommodations, especially if it is going to be awhile.
Rigth now your issue is with sony - you are covered under manufacturers warranty. Contact their customer service department, explain this is the second time this has happened and that you do need a working laptop for your education. be very polite with them, and see if they will cross ship you a loaner.
Store warranties are only meant to suppliment the manufacturers warranty and do only formally kick in after the manufacturers warranty has expired.
In the future, don't opt for the warranty. Almost all your hardware in your computer has a warranty, and the system will almost always come with one year. |

You didn't buy a warranty, you bought an EXTENDED warranty which doesn't kick in until the factory warranty runs out.
Nothing illegal about what they did, or what they are doing. Try and find a Sony authorized repair shop in your town or at least nearby.
I don't see the media picking up any interest in it. |

Make a fuss. Contact local papers & any current affair shows. Contact your local Office of Fair Trading they should be able to tell you what your rights are as a consumer & what the stores responsiblities are as a retailer. |
