Can somebody give me legal help with my situation?

I got a hotel room for my sister's bday at a Hotel and Casino Resort.
While I'm down at the casino, my sister invited some people at the hotel (almost all of them are under-age). I didn't know that there will be alcohol.
These guys got out of control and were really loud so my sister kicked them out (they were friends of her friend). Because they didn't want to leave, they decided to break a chandelier outside the hotel room.
Now, the hotel is charging me for the property damage. A hotel manager said that because they were at the party, I was responsible for them and the property damage they caused.
Am I still liable for these people even if my sister kicked them out of the party? Are there any criminal actions that I'm responsible for? Should I settle this with the company to avoid criminal charges against me? What are my rights? What's legal and ethical? Please help! References to law and other government documents would be helpful!
Note: I didn't know that this happened because I was down at the casino.

Also note, that the damage is NOT in my hotel room, but rather in the hallway.
These guys broke the chandelier because my sister won't let them in after being loud and out of control.

you rented the room...it is under your name and you paid for it...
and so you are responsible for what goes on in that room and any damage done, you are liable. and also how do we know that your sister kicked them out? maybe she just said that to you. even though you didn't know what was going on...you still rented the room. unless you have proof that you didn't do, then i'm sorry you going to have to pay.
not trying to be mean, just laying it out for you.
this is why young people should not hold their parties in hotel rooms... |

Yes you are responsible, you signed for it and assumed responsibility so it's your room and you failed to supervised who got in and what they were doing. It doesn't matter if they were kicked since they were invited by your sister on the first place (besides the hotel don't have any obligation to trust your word).
It doesn't matter if the damage was in the hallway, you are responsible for whatever "your guests" do in the Hotel premises during their visit to "your party". Avoid making a big deal or the police might get involved and you might be charged for the alcohol to the minors (again: your room, your responsibility; you were supposed to be there supervising).
The hotel have your signature, and your written agreement so they are not going to waste their time chasing those kids. What you can do is pay the damages and then sue the parents of those kids (not a good idea if they find out about the alcohol). |

You can be held responsible and unless you pay you can be sued.. You are the responsible party not your sister.. You can then turn around and sue the ones responsible for the damage they did.. It will be a civil law suit in small claims court.. Hope this painful experience will be a positive lesson for you..Being down in the casino has no bearing on your responsibility.. |

The hotel wants to bill you because they have your credit card number, they know who you are, and don't have to chase after you.
Give the hotel management the names of the responsible parties. Report the matter to the local police. |

The ethical thing to do would be to pay the charges, your sister invited them, they got drunk, and caused the damage. Your sister should pay you back, and if she can get in touch with the people who did the damage, they should pay her back for repaying you.
That is the ethical thing to do.
Probably you are legally on the hook too. These were criminal actions of the friends of your sister, and they could be prosecuted.
Hope your sister learned a lesson.
