Can someone on ebay rate you poorly just because you rated them poorly?

I bought a product from someone who false advertised. When I got the product I contacted them asking for a refund, they refused, so I gave them a poor rating. They then gave me a poor rating back, even though I paid for the item almost instantly after the action closed. Can they do that?

Sellers can no longer give buyers negative feedback on eBay. But if you give negative feedback, they can respond in the comments when they give their feedback.

Yes they do this sort of thing all the time

Some people have sued to get it removed, but it cost a lot of money and time

You have a place to respond, just make a comment and move on.

Ebay will be of no help to you in anyway
