He got screwed over by the system, it seems a bit harsh. My thoughts are with him and hopefully he gets off with a fine or less, and lets pray for your sister and their child. |

Coming from a family that hunts:
Hunting laws are taken very seriously. They are there to protect the wildlife.
Hunting without a license that is a big no no! They will even take your vehicle and of course your gun.
And hunting in a baited field that is another big mistake. They is not hunting that is massacring animals.
His sentence is not out of line compared to others I have heard. |

uh...he's not doing 10 years for hunting without a license. Unless he was doing it in the White HOuse.
There is a lot more going on here. |

Probably more along the lines of, He was in possession of a class 3 firearm. that will get you 10 years, hunting without a liscence = fine + confiscation of firearm(possibly). |

Those aren't his only charges.
He must have some gun charges in there as well. |

He did break the law but 10 years? I've seen murderers do less time than that. |

Hunting without a permit won't get you that much jail time, he must have done something else as well. He could have resisted arrest and wounded a deputy, or been found with drugs. All sorts of things.
Maybe he took a shot at some hikers? |

Did he make a plea? Does he have an attorney? Seems like some critical info is missing here. |

I think that whenever I hear someone complain about a punishment using the premise that other people have done worse, I wonder why people think that is a defense.
Not everyone who does wrong will be caught. Not everyone who has been caught will get what they deserve. That doesn't mean that the law is forever restrained from catching anyone else or punishing them as they should be.
I also agree with all of the other posters that there must be more to this story than you have been told (or that you are telling us). |

If he has no respect for a simple hunting law, why do you think he has respect for laws against drugs, rape and beating children? |
