Yes, they can fire you. It seems unfair but many businesses have dress codes. You could chekc to see if there is anything mentioned. Either way though, I would steer clear. He would end up finding another reason to replace you.
I don't think there is a single place I've worked where I haven't seen someone get fired for inappropriate attire |

Well, I'm pretty sure you'd get fired at my office for getting a mohawk.
It isn't freakin' high school - grow up! |

Yep, haircuts are not protected. They have an image they want to project and they can fire you if they want to. |

Yes. Workplaces have these things called dress codes. |

If there is a company policy about it then yes, they can fire you. |

If it's against company 'dress code' policy, they can fire you. |

Yes, he can fire you. Your boss is your boss for a reason. listen to him. jobs are very hard to come by nowadays. If you get fired, do you actually think that someone will hire you with a haircut that went out in the 80's?
I wouldn't do it if I were you.
You are a grown man, or want to be treated like one at least. Get your mindset out of highschool and grow up. |

Sadly, Yes. My buddy is 12 and I'm 11 and he got kicked out of school for having his hair as a mohawk. He came into school the first day he had it and then bam! out he went. |

If it is in the dress code or they explained it to you when you were hired, then yes. It is a place of business, so I would assume that they would have a dress code in place with some type of hair policy in place. |

Best answer usually the simplest

Face it. The boss is your GOD. He signs your pay checks. If your job is that- that it puts you in contact with the public.....your appearance represents the company image. It matters.
If however, you work out back or are the night shift janitor, having no contact with the outside world, would not make no diff.
When you first applied, you were not atired that way, were you? So, a good part of the reason you get hired is looks.
Are you of the creed Mohawk? No? Then it is a fashion thing. And part of the reason you got hired was because of your conservative look.
Be fully aware that moves like this will keep you at the bottom of the ladder 4ever, getting bypassed for promotions.
If you want to do the haircut thing, you should have been in the entertainment industry. ...or your own boss. But with that kind of look, you will have more trouble scaring up jobs than the conservatively dressed clean cut dude. Fact of life.
Applicable to business's everywhere whether they be in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia,Asia.
Money comes first.
Well, they could always make you work out back instead. Like I say, it really depends on your contact with the public.
Too bad you pre informed your boss. You could have cut off the sides around the ears and made a partial cut in that direction claiming psoriasis of the scalp means cutting back while it cleared up. |

In most states they can fire you for violation of the company dress code. I'm assuming that it's the same way in Canada but even if it isn't I'm sure he'd find another legal way to fire you within a couple of days over another issue. |

Check the employee handbook. I don't know the law in Canada, but her in Pennsylvania, we are an "at-will" state. My employer can fire me for not liking my hair...even though I have had the same style (buzzed) for years.
Employers have a right to determine how their employees represent them to the public. |

If your boss said no I wouldn't do it.
Then again if all you do is talk on the telephone I think your boss is not being that reasonable, but if it's a privately owned company they can do what they want. |

they can fire you for any reason or no reason at all.
They have the legal right to dictate your general appearance
I certainly would lot hire a perso with a mohawk and my customers would not like it.
If you do it anyway, you will get fired, you will NOT get unemployment and you will find it very hard to find a job. |

I was wondering this too, I wouldnt think anyone could do a thing about it. Its basically your appearance, can you be fired for being fat? I dont think so, do it, if you get fired sue them, retire. |

Just like you can be fired for being black, you can be fired if your boss hired you for some ******* and he doesn't get any either. |
