Can you explain me Common Law in details?

Can you please tell me how the common law works in the USA the principles behind it, or give me a link where I can look it up?

Thanks!

Common Law is one of the legal traditions used in the US and throughout the world. It is where the courts determine the outcome of a case and then use that outcome as the basis of future cases with similar facts. The foundation of which is called "stare desisis" which means let the decision stand. The common law tradition is said to be very stable and consider to be the best in the world. Courts are very reluctant to change a decision rendered by another court and it is often up to the attorneys to show why the change is warranted due to a difference in the set of facts. The idea of "stare decisis" is very strong and why it is so difficult to change even controversial cases such as "roe v wade". The Supreme Court almost never changes it's own decisions. Again making our legal tradition very strong and leading to a legal system steeped in history and very stable. Louisiana uses the Napoleonic codes rather than common law.
