I loaned someone $5000 to buy a utility trailer. A verbal promise was made that it would be paid back within 2 weeks - The person moved to another state right after the loan - its been 3 years - can I file a lien on his property even tho he lives in another state now?

Verbal contracts ARE valid, IF you can prove that the contract occurred and its terms.
No, you can't "file a lien".
There is no such thing.
You have to sue him in court, and then win your case.
THEN you can execute your judgment by placing a lien on his property, or taking other measures permitted BY THE LAW. |

Cat lover, many verbal contracts are valid.
With that said, it will be difficult to get a lien on the trailer. You will need to go to court where the trailer is located. |

Verbal contracts are not valid.
You should have gotten it in writing.
You will have a very very hard time convincing a court to set a lien.
