I'm 17 and my boyfriend is 17. My dad hates him for no reason. He's never harmed me in anyway, my dad just doesn't like him at all. Can I get rid of the restraining order on my own?

A restraining order is applied by a Court after reasonable harm or danger is proved before a judge. To answer to question: The only way that the order can be removed is if your dad removes it himself. Sorry! |

Your dad doesn't hate him for no reason. You can't get a restraining order just for disliking someone, either.
You cannot lift the restraining order, and if you actually care about your boyfriend, you will respect the fact that it is in place. If your dad (or the police) find you hanging out with your boyfriend, your boyfriend can go to jail. Back off until you're 18. When you are 18, you are legally an adult and can make your own decisions, even going to a boyfriend that your father obviously thinks is going to harm you. Remember, though, that at age 18, your parents are no longer required to allow you to live in their home, or feed you, etc. If you want to stay at home, you should follow their rules. Being an adult and being able to make your own choices comes with being responsible for your life, including in a financial way. |

The procedure depends upon the state. Your boyfriend will have to make a motion. He should get a lawyer. You can go with him and testify that there is no reason for the restraining order. |

Take my hard won advice, you need to stay away from losers. Be thankful your Dad cares enough to make a fuss. He is trying to save you a ton of grief down the road. Why not put as much concentration into your school work as you are putting in trying to spend time with your boyfriend?
I'll bet the farm that your grades are a big part of Dad's problem.
Just don't do anything stupid, like 'forgetting' your birth control, please.
