Yes.
If the judge and jury decide you are guilty based on the evidence then you can be convicted and go to prison even though you may in fact be innocent.
Many many cases of wrongful conviction in the past.

Absolutely, while the crooked cops and officials get no consequences for doing it. |

As corrupt as our justice systems your more likely to go to prison if your innocent that you are if your guilty. |

Everyone in prison is innocent. Just go and ask them. |

I believe that most South American jails only accept you if you're innocent.
All the actual criminals will be locked out. |

Yes. DNA evidence has resulted in the release of quite a few innocent people from prison. |

You betcha. If you are convicted of a crime, guilty or not. Be willing to pay a good lawyer if you can afford it. That helps. |

Not only that, you may even be executed in some countries. |

It happens all the time. That's why there are groups of lawyers & law students that take on old cases. Plus DNA is being used in quite a few older cases to prove innocence. There was a man released recently after spending over 20 yrs. in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Depending on the crime it can still happen for various reasons. |

Yes, there have been quite a few in prisoners who were innocent. i was involved with a man who served 27 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, the longest in British criminal history.
some seem water tight, there was a case of a man, in recent times, whose fingerprints were at the scene of the crime, he was sentenced to life in prison. it turned out he could not have done it, he had an alibi the fact was another person had identical fingerprint. The fingerprint was in a blood stain on the wall. yet most people think fingerprint evidence is fireproof, it is not. |

Yes. If you are convicted in a court of law you go to prison.
You can always be held for not being able to post bail, or for skipping a court date, without a conviction, though technically that is jail and not prison. |
|

Robin B
|
sure you can. You can be sentenced with fabricated evidence against you. You can also be imprisoned due to lack of posting bail bond thus rendering you imprisoned until the trial is over |

While we have a jury system this is always a possibility. The lawyers are more interested in winning a case than actually getting real justice. Any evidence they come across that could jeopardise the winning is left un said. It is not always the jury that is at fault as they are swayed by the barrister that comes up with the most plausible evidence and has the gift of talking. |

Right now they would not send someone to prison they know is innocent.
