Just becsue there are cochroaches??!! No. Not unless the roaches are not being killed. If the mother isnt killing them and keeping the house saniatary, then that is liek a health violatin thing. |

Why not help the mother get rid of the roaches? |

I don't think so ...The problem would have to be more then just roaches. |

Depends if the apartment is dirty. Roaches do not mean her apartment is dirty--if her apartment is clean the child is clean and she is able to buy food/clothing for it she will be fine. |

Hey oaches are very nasty but that should not be areason for who ever is trying to take your . Just call ORKIn and tell those people to get off your back |

If the roaches are bad enough it is cause for a bad enviorment. I would recommend she gets it sprayed and has a letter handy to show for this purpose. |

Not likely unless the mother is an unfit mother (drugs, criminal record, etc.). She probably is unable to afford a better home or she would have done so.
Maybe mother-in-law should have a talk with her son about paying more child support so mom can move into a home with better living conditions for their childs sake. |

Possibly. Roaches are a health hazard. She can help herself out by keeping copies of correspondence between herself and the landlord about the roaches, and receipts from places like terminix who come to exterminate them. But yes, she can indeed lose the child due to a roach problem. |

any one can sue anyone for anything. the likely hood of the mother in law getting custody is very remote. the daughter in law should make sure that she is not doing any thing that would make her unfit as custodial parent. Having roaches will not get your child taken. The mother in law should get a life and mind her own business unless the child is in real danger. being poor and living in the hood is not just cause for removal of a child from his/her mother. |
|

Wait a minute...
 |
The mother in law is a nosy person...It is none of her business....How would she even know about ROACHES ANYWAY??? if there are some??? My recommendation is the stay away from her as MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND do not tell her anything...she is something else...NO SHE CANNOT GET CUSTODY...she is just threatening!!! Be very careful of her!!! |

She probably doesn't have a leg to stand on. Roaches can be anywhere, and even a super clean, nice townhouse can have them. They're in the walls, and they travel.
It's not the fault of the mom of the child in question that there are roaches there, so no, the mom in law probably can't get away with this....but your friend should be watchful that she doesn't come up with another excuse to try again. |

1st of all: I admit I am nieve on this, since I live in the Northern half of the U.S. but couldn't that person call an exterminator like Orkin to kill the roaches?
2nd of all: I could see the government saying that row house is an unsuitable environment for a child to be raised in, so depending on the judge, yes they could lose their kid. I would seriously have that person talk to a lawyer, to be on the safe side sense laws vary from state to state and even sometimes from county to county or city to city...
Good luck to that person! |

if that were the case i would imagine alot of children would be taken from parents...i would think there would have to be more for the grandma to go on... |

Yes, if the home is filthy and insect infested she has a case! I would not want my grandchild living in that environment. The mom needs to do what she can to make the home livable. Suggest she contact the housing authority in her city and report the conditions. |

I'm not an expert, but from my (limited) knowledge they could, IF they can prove there is a significant risk to the child's health, If some roaches are the biggest worry I don't think the child will be taken away. |

Only if it would pose a health risk to the child. However, there are roaches everywhere, and the roaches can be killed off, so I really doubt she would get custody. Just sounds like a grandma that is stepping where she don't need to be stepping. |

I've heard of a couple loosing their kids, because they didn't have a car. So you need to call a lawyer. |

Yea, I have to agree with the other answerer. It seems to me that if the MIL is trying to take the kids away from the mother, there are bigger issues than bugs. If all she's worried about is roaches, then she can buy the family a roach bomb, have a cleaning party, and be done. If she's trying to get custody, there's more to it. |
