Can you lower child support if you are on unemployment?

You can ask; court may or may not rule your kids eat less while you jobhunt. They generally don't lower it.

No you can't get it lowered just because you're on unemployment! You can get work at ANY fast food place, work at more than one if you have to! Your kid still needs to eat!

In Ohio, you have to file a motion to have it amended. Then you wait until your hearing to ask the judge whether they will lower your payment. Until then, you have to pay the monthly bill or you'll get behind. If you get too far behind then you can go to jail. $83 a week is not bad at all. Your child still needs support so if you get that much, then you should send it for support. If you don't get that much, then you still need to try to make the payment. If you can't make it, then at least you are still contributing and that means (in Ohio) you won't go to jail. If you really don't make enough to afford the payment, then file a motion and see what the judge has to say. Just keep in mind that your child is what is important here, not you.

I live in Texas and here they take 25% of a persons income.Of course if you get laid off of a job or even your pay an hour goes now you need to contact the Attorney Generals Office and let them know also you need to contact your attorney that handled your child support agreement to start With and let them know.Most likely the court system will rule in your favor because it stands to reason you can not pay $100.00 a week if you are not even making $100.00 a week.

Ask your lawyer or the childrens aid.Most likely you can. Ask the best JUDGE JUDY. Joking aside you may have to prove that is all you have at present. Re reading, it looks like your saying your payments have already been reduced /or are you saying your wage is now only $83 dollars a week. Seems you may have been making a fare wage to pay $100 a week on child support /how many children?and ,they are your responsibility after all.Be a good parent do not moan just do it,it will go well for you in the future.

Yes, it is happening across the country. But you must go to family court and get a judge to agree with you, otherwise you can go to jail. But it will change again when you are working again.

Maybe you can get it lowered. The Michigan State Child Support Calculator can be found at the website below. Plug in the numbers and see what comes up.

Keep in mind they may set a lower rate with the remainder put off for the future. When you get a better job your rate goes up and you have to make up what you failed to pay when you were being paid less.

You must petition the court to have your support lowered.

There is likely a formula that they use to determine the cost. I am not familiar with the exact formula they use to determine that cost.
