Even after the child has turned 18? My first husband NEVER paid (and the amount was only set at minimum wage until about the last three years), because I could not prove his income. Does he get to just skate by free and clear, because he was able to avoid his financial responsibility all those years? I know I'll never see a dime...just curious if he is even still responsible to pay what he owed...at this point. Thanks.

No...unlike him...I've always worked for whatever I have. No state assistance received.

If you have not waited too long after your child turned 18, you may, in some states, get the arrearage reduced to judgment. It might allow you then to use post-judgment remedies (garnishment of accounts, writ of execution, abstract of judgment, etc.).
The judgment would be active for years.

Probably not since the child is over 18. if he was ordered to pay for 3 years and you never collected, you will have a hard time getting anyone to enforce that order if you have no new information. Some states will close your case ASAP, since the child has emancipated. |
