I just went to check the balance in my bank account & the Visa account that was linked to my chequing account has taken $550.00 of my pay. Is this legal!? They do not have a judgement against me or anything of the sort. I have been contacted by a collections agency for the amount I owe & doing my best to pay it off as I can but $550 is almost the amount of my rent!! I never authorized this payment and the way I see it is that they are a company just like my cellphone provider. if I owed money to, let's say Bell Mobility, they couldn't just take it from my bank account.
How is this legal!?

this is a sticky situation. it is legal. i'm sure if you read the fine print on your contract with visa you will see that you have authorized visa to pay itself any money you may owe them. same thing as with a bank; if you owe your bank some money, then you make a deposit, the first thing the bank is going to do is to pay themselves. |

This happens all the time in Ontario to people who are late paying a credit card bill. Sorry. |

Well I don't know, I've never heard of that. But what they did to me was CHANGE my VISA INTEREST from 11 percent to 19 those F8cking crooks....after I acquired a substantial debt too. So now of course beating that interest back is next to impossible. Will have to find another bank or another type of low interest loan (and the Visa Card will be going in the GARBAGE). I haven't used it for years now as it is.
They seem to feel they are ABOVE THE LAW. Must be second cousins to those folks at the FEDERAL RESERVE.
Go to your CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and ask them for help with this, and advice too. |

If you have not authorized it, and there is no bank garnishment, they they have illegally taken money from your account.
I suggest you contact a licensed paralegal or lawyer for help. |

If it is a Visa from the bank that has your account and you charged the bill to it for that bill;.the answer i think is yes .As long as it was on the Visa card. Do you have your bill taken out every month if so they can pay the bill. You would have to authorize the payment before hand. Go to the manager and have this explained to you. It could be a mistake. |
