Canadian Knife Laws - Indoors and Outdoors!?

Canadian Knife Laws - Indoors and Outdoors!?

I took time to write this and to answer hundreds of questions myself. Please help me out by reading and answering thuroughly, I don't ask many questions and I help out the yahoo answers community a lot. Please help me back.

I like collecting knives, weapons.. Lighters, I DON'T KNOW WHY!!! Don't ask...

Just recently I started, I got a tomahawk, a big hunting knife, 2 spring assisted knives, a really nice shiny pocket knife, 2 folder hunting utility knife things (Really don't know what there called) and 2 normal folding knives but they got one of those thumb assists.

Okay none of that has anything to do with my question, firstly all of those are 100% legal in my country of Canada.. But some knives I want are illegal.. So here comes some of my questions, feel free to add as much as you want, and please if anything cares for the community, be helpful cause I am very helpful to the yahoo community. Help out your peers.

I want to know if I can buy ILLEGAL knives but never carry them outdoors.. Such as Balisong butterfly knives or switchblades, some Italian stiletto switch blades.. Blah blah, because it is LEGAL to sell the parts, and people sell kits at the flee markets and stuff, and you take it home and once its made its illegal, but I'm not sure if I can have them just for collectional purposes.

Okay another question, this gets asked a lot, no one really knows the answer, they go off BS they hear from others. I want to know if its LEGAL to carry knives outdoors, I know pocket knives are, but like a spring assist or something, and I know some people say if its smaller then the palm of your hand or w/e but my hands are small lol 0.0.. And I know for a fact that if a police officer feels that the item is a weapon that they can take it from you, no matter what it is. But I want to know how far can I push this to the limit where they can literally charge me, I could have a razor sharp pen I like sharpened, but its not illegal 0.0 but they can take it away, and I'm sure I cant get charged for it. So how far can I push that where they can only take it and not charge me.

I also want to know if there are permits or such I can get, I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) in Ontario, Canada. I don't want to carry a weapon to harm people, just mainly for self defense and in case of emergencies, which happen in cases. I really want to know if I have a legal knife, and I use it to help someone else or myself in self defense if thats okay.

I also know for a fact that if you tell a police officer that you carry a weapon for self defense that you can be charged for planning on using it on someone, so thats kinda stupid if it is legal to use it as self defense.

Thats it really, but if you want to add anything I apreciate information.

As for restricted weapons, you are right that they can sell the parts but not the item can not be completed. I know in some areas in Canada, you can have restricted weapons for a collection as long as the item under lock and key, have a license (this varies from city to city), etc. You should be able to find this info at city hall or a local police station.

As for the knife, the legal limit for it to be hidden is 6". Depending on the officer, this could mean the blade only or the entire length of the weapon (I know from personal experience). Any blade longer then 6" that is hidden is considered a concealed weapon and you can be charged for such an offence. If they really wanted to, there are a few more charges that you can get put on you.

As for the police to confiscate weapons, they can do that to a certain extent under the public endangerment laws. Depending on the weapon, you can get charged or it will be returned to you at a later date.

As for stating that a weapon is for self defence, this is a criminal offence as you are willing to use it on a person. This is just like people stating that they need a hand gun for self defence; hand guns are usually used to kill not for self defence.

Are things so bad where you live that you need to carry a knife for self defense? Carry some mace or like a a knuckle duster if its so bad but not an instrument to kill people with, Also it sounds like you want to test the police to what you can carry, Because if they let you carry a dangerous knife then they would have to let everyone carry a dangerous knife, I know some not so nice people do carry knifes but do we really want a world where everyone can walk around carrying dangerous knifes? You may only be using it for protection but they can't have one rule for you and rule for everyone else, I'm suspisious of anyone who collects so many dangerous weapons why would you want or need them anyway?
