a. it's harmless
b.it would put many organised criminasls out of business
c. it would raise millions in taxes
d. the reason it was criminalised in the first place was a purely political action, designed to keep the public from having a mind of its own.
e the police would save thousands of man-hours, enabling them to tackle genuine, serious crime.

Yes, certainly for adults.

First on principle, I think people should generally be free to do what they want, within reason. Pot's a minor vice, certainly no worse than alcohol, tobacco, gambling or ice cream.

Second, the nation spends a huge amount of money trying to interdict the trade. That money could be saved. Those cop resources could be used to help control things like murder, rape and robbery.

Third, legalizing marijuana would deny a huge source of income to organized crime, both in the US and in latin america (where organized crime is sometimes a real competitor and threat to local government).

Fourth, legal marijuana would produce a huge new commercial opportunity in this country, which the country could certainly use.

And finally, sales of the stuff could be taxed, to help support local government.

There's no good reason to keep it illegal.

The government (english) could really use it to there advantage ie by cutting out organised crime, make some money by charging tax on it, and cutting down police hours.

I think taking drugs and drinking alcohol is a person choice, not like stealing, murdering etc

no. i don't think it's a good idea to legalize marijuana. but i think it should be decriminalized. i see nothing wrong with personal use and use for medical reasons. but import and export and major distribution of marajuana should still be criminal offenses. i don't support legalizing it but i do support the decriminalization of it.

no,the only reason is that the goverment would make too much money out of it,it DOES NOT always lead to hard drugs and it does not always make you go mental,look at amsterdam,their crime rate and teen pregnancy rate is far lower than ours,what does that tell you,drink causes way more bad stuff than cannabis ever has or ever will,and for those religious types here's a nice saying for you-god created weed,man created alcohol,who do you trust?Alcohol is a far worse thing.period,when was the last time someone smoking weed went out looking for a fight?a kebab,munchies maybe,but not a fight like they do on booze.
In response to the-making a poison legal that kills you answer-no proof that it kills you,tobacco maybe,not the stuff itself,and alcohol is a poison,and if you need proof that it kills you,look at the stats for drink driving,kidney failure,beatings,shootings,knifings,weir... are far worse effects from alcohol,yes it messes some people up,but not all,it's their choice

Yes....it does no harm to anyone, it is not an addictive substance people are only addictive to the feeling it gives them. It does not cause anyone to belive they can fly or anything.

Yes, for the following reasons.

Cannabis use is relatively harmless if it is used sensibly. It's certainly no more toxic than alcohol.

It would break the link between cannabis use and drug dealers. At the moment most people have to buy cannbis from a dealer, which means they are being exposed to people who will try to sell them hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine (many dealers use cannabis as a 'loss leader' to gain customers, then offer them hard drugs cheaply - until they're hooked).

It would improve government revenue as packs of joints would surely be taxed in the same way as cigarettes. So more money would be available for useful social programmes.

It would probably cut down violent crime, as at least some people would switch from alcohol to cannabis as their drug of choice. Very few people are ever arrested for being 'stoned and disorderly'.

No because in Psychology we have looked into THC and it's Psychological effect's. THC can cause Schizophrenia,Anxiety Disorder,Depression and less severe form's of Bi Polar Disorder.

Which country are you referring to? I have visited Amsterdam twice (i live in the UK) and found that the system they have over there seems to work on some level however I think it should be more tightly controlled.

If you put a poison into your body willingly, then you are obviosly not inteligent enough to make your own decisians , and the state must make them for you . As for people who take it for relieve of there illnes i believe it is a failure by the state not to provide it on the NHS so that some control of its bad side effects can be controled. As for making a poison that kills legal you must be joking

I have seen the effects of cannabis in the long term on my uncle. He was addicted to canabis for years and now he has finally given up, he truly doesn't know if he is coming or going. He's just 40 and already it's like he has alziemers, as though he's not really inside his own mind. Sometimes he forgets where he is and gets extremely scared. We had to go and pick him up from Morrison's once and he was just sitting in a corner in the fruit and veg aisle crying his eyes out and shaking. Canabis has this effect on many people, just because it isn't constant with everyone doesn't mean that canabis is Ok. It very definatley should not be legal.
