Capitol Punishment?

Who believes that capitol punishment should be reintroduced for murder.
If you believe it should not in all cases ~*~ would you agree that it should for the Murder of Policemen , Prison Officers, Children, etc
Additional Details

I used to believe in capital punishment until I got involved in our criminal justice system. You can't believe how incompetent some lawyers and judges are and how often "eye witnesses" are wrong and juries come to the wrong conclusion. The system is so prone to errors that we should never be executing anyone, thereby making it impossible to correct a mistake later. DNA evidence has cleared hundreds of people who were wrongly convicted.

i don't believe in capitol punishiment.

If there is absolutely NO DOUBT WHAT SO EVER THAT THE PERSON KILLED ANOTHER AND SHOWS NO REMORSE then yes, I believe in a life for a life.

But did anyone see the movie The Life of David Gale?

Makes you think.

All murder should be at least a life sentence with no parole, or the death penalty, and murder of policemen, children, etc..... should be the death penalty. I'd like to see that Old West stuff again, hanging them high for everyone to see.

Just my opinion
I believe in capitol punishment for people who have no more redeemable qualities. Ones who will kill their own mother and will kill again and again. Some are in prison for murder and will murder their inmates. IMO These people serve no purpose and should be put to death. Other than that, I don't believe in it.

Bo-cat
Yes bring it back, with DNA ETC many100%certain cases could be sorted out by stretching the murderers neck, and this would deter many other cowardly murderers from killing. The tree hugging toss-pots never stop to think of the victims and their family.

news hound
,Yes to answer your question, my view is that if a person is found to be guilty of capital crimes as you have indicated
,It should made absolutely sure that he /she is, guilty (and there are now ways available to ensure that is correct) their life should be forfeit,Imprisonment in the UK could mean, they could be let out and, commit murder again. This has happened, recently.
I cannot under stand the answer posed by =That guy= when he says capital punishment is more expensive than imprisonment withought parole I would have assumed the reverse?

Babylamb
Absolutely, if there is 100% certainty and no doubt that the person is guilty then yes, death sentence for paedophiles, child murderers, and mass murderers.

Yes. I don't know if it will stop anyone else from killing, but it will sure stop that person from killing again.

With todays legal system no.Look back at all the people who have been proven innocent after spending years incarcerated.

What is so special about Policemen or prison officers lives{ both of them realised that they would be dealing with violence before they sign up} as against a homeless person, a shop assistant or one of our family.

I used to believe that it was fine, but I have changed my mind. But I think in most cases it is too good for prisoners, I think instead of the death penalty the killer should be forced to spend life in solitary confinement, 23/7 surrounded by the pictures of the victim. An occasional visit from the victim's family would be good too.

The murder of police and prison officers and children would be understandable but I think it is still to good for a prisoner to just get a needle in his/her arm and never need to suffer for it

Hanging etc. should be brought back.....

It's That Guy
As I understand it, capital punishment is called for not for just murder alone but only in cases of murder with another factor--murder for hire, murder of a police officer, murder in a rape or robbery, etc. etc.

A few years go, we had the death penalty for rape. But it was seen (and argued before the Supreme Court) that if rapists faced the death penalty for rape, they had no incentive to let their victims live! I mean if you raped a woman and you knew you'd go to the chair if you got caught, you'd kill her to keep her quiet, since there was no further penalty for that.

Just a couple of days ago the Supreme Court accepted a case to decide whether capital punishment could be re-instated for the rape of a child.

I don't favor capital punishment, for many reasons, but the basic ones are that it doesn't work as a deterrent, and it's much more expensive than life imprisonment without possibility of parole. I believe public opinion is trending against capital punishment, partly for these reasons and partly because DNA evidence has cleared hundreds of convicted criminals in the last few years, showing the flaws in our justice system.

Banana
capitol punishment IS legal for murder in some states, but only 1st degree murder (premeditated). I'm not sure how I personally feel about it. It does seem to operate as any kind of effective "deterrent" for criminals per se, so the only justification is really the "eye for an eye" philosophy. It's a little hypocritical to kill murderers for killing others, isn't it?

Capital punishment should be brought back for murder (and kiddy fiddling, tax evasion and parking in disabled bays without a badge)
