Caught stealing from WalMart...?

i was caught walking out of walmart with a 3 dollar item and taken to a security room near customer service. they took my license and copied down some information. i was told i could come back in the store, i would be "watched," and i was also not asked to sign anything, just let go. i was really worried/sick over it and i went back in to ask the policeman who patorls there and he could tell i was upset. he said my name would go in a walmart/sams club database for 6 months and it woudl be deleted. he said there will be no consequences for me, no record, no anything, and that it wasn't a big deal and that its nothing to lose sleep over. he told me it was okay and that it wouldn't be on a background check or anything.

does anyone have more information? will anything else happen? should i trust waht the on-duty policeman said?

You were never charged with anything legally. No police were involved, just store security. Trust what they have told you and dont steal anymore.

Hey, u should be worried because not only is your picture/ license in a national data base system. When u go look for a job it will come up as a petty thief w/ no jail time my mom says. It will stay under ur alias as a petty insubordinate act done with no jail time. When they run your license they will see that you had an infraction at wal-mart my mom said.....

I don't think you have much to worry about unless you steal from there again. I got caught stealing a few years ago and settled when I went through a rehab program.. It was going to be in my record for two years, but closed after the first year. I did police checks in that time and it didn't come up (after the first year) and it has in no way affected me since.
Just don't steal from walmart for the next 6 months. If you got caught anywhere else it might also come up if it's hooked to your ID and the sentence would be harsher.
I thought walmart would have really pressed charges if anyone were to!!!!!!!!
