if you are walking home then once you are off school property you can turn your phone on. they're not allowed in our schools either but everyone has them anyway and just keeps them put away till they're off school property. |

How do you think that we neanderthals who grew up without cell phones ever survived? This entitled generation of kids are gonna lead us into a future of....Oh, God, I dont want to think about it. |

i agree with kiwi,my son's school is going through the same ordeals,if it's only to use for what they're supposed to be for, then leave them locked unless you really need it |

People took advantage of them, it happens..
Do they not allow you to keep it in your locker?
Have your parents call and say they want you to have it for your walk home...Honestly that should help.. maybe they could just have a rule so you can just keep them in your locker and if they catch someone with a cell during class hours detention and a call home maybe? |

They can't stop you from having them. You are allowed to keep them in your bags as long as they are turned off and not visible during school hours. |

Ignore the ban and be a rebel! Just put the phone in your backpack and leave it turned off for the day, then turn it on on your walk home. |

Sorry. You'll have to do without. Of course, you could keep one, turned off, in your coat pocket and therefore in your locker during the school day.
But, if you get caught with it, you'll be in trouble. |

First, if you're going to take issue with it, start calling it "banned," not "banded." Then, tell your parents, teachers, and principal exactly that-that you feel unsafe without it. |

School is no place for cell phones. School is for education.
What do you think the millions and millions of other students in history did before cell phones?
They have only been around 20 years or so....
Get over it. |

I just love the Idea of no phone's allowed in school at all ,
you are there to learn not to talk, when you get home is you're time , think if you were a teacher would it be ok with you.
I have never liked the fact that even first grader's are carying cell's to school what a joke.'
And we working citizen's have to pay tax's to have this going on at school's I SAY IT SHOULD BE DONE EVERY SCHOOL TERM. Teacher's have phone for Emergency's. |

They necessarily can't ban cellphones b/c its not like they can monitor all the kids who go to your school. I agree that it should be banned IN-SCHOOL...its usage...if you need to use it use it during your OWN time...such as lunch and outside of the school. Cell phones should not be 'on' while classes are functioning. Its very unmannerly.
At my uni Profs are notoroious for breaking student cellphones that ring. |

Spread the anonymous question 'would you rather like that somebody carry a weapon?' That'll make the debate interesting. |

You don't want to hear this but since you asked ---I think you have a very weak argument.
Your argument rests with the added security you feel with your phone while walking home. What does this have to do with cell phones at school? Not a thing. As has been mentioned, once off school property, the ban (not banded) would not apply.
Of course, even your added security argument has weakness in itself. If a cell phone makes you feel more secure, it is a false sense of security.
A cell phone will not make you any safer or more secure than lack of one. It will allow you to report your injuries or rape sooner. In fact, there are predators who look for people on cell phones since the conversation detracts from the attention you should be devoting to your security. [It is this distraction factor that has led to laws regarding cell phone use while driving.]
You may have a better argument that added phones on campus will result in quicker reports to authorities. Time & again when violence happens on schools, cell users report the incidents quickly. They also help parents to know their kids are OK or what is happening when something does happen.
At the community college where I taught, cell phones were not banned however every time the instructor heard the phone in class the student lost points. That included the sound of the phone vibrating against something in a pocket or purse. It did result in grade changes.
And lastly, cell phone ownership & use has more than doubled in the last 10 years. For hundreds of years students did just fine without a cell phone. Contrary to the belief of many, a cell phone is more a hindrance than a necessity to a quality education. |

At my school we have forms we can get signed to be allowed to have the cell phone in our locker. although it must be turned off at all times. if you are afraid to walk home alone i would suggest working out something like that with the principle or any1 who works at the school. |

So why don't you leave your cell phone in your locker all day while in class?
Why not have a student committee approach the principal with a plan for students to check their phones in when they arrive, and pick them up when going home?
I agree kids in school have no business using cell phones during class time, it is absolutely unnecessary for any school purpose, and camera phones have been used to invade privacy far too often.
By the way, the word is "banned" "Banded" is the word used to describe a bird that has had a tracking number tag put on a leg. |

Can't see the problem. Keep it turned OFF and in your pocket or locker until you leave the premises. Simple. Or do you get searched?
You'll understand that the school won't be interested if it's stolen, of course . . . |

Maybe you should have your parents write a letter to the school asking for the policy to be overturned. |

maybe they should make you turn them in to your teacher or the office when you get to school and give them back at the end of the day |
