I think it's a little ridiculous. She's basically using the state and you for free money so she doesn't have to provide it. But the law's the law. You'll have to see what your attorney can come up with if anything. |
|

Um. No.
 |
That seems pretty egregious, especially if she's receiving other support elsewhere. I would think that any reasonable judge would see that for what it is--an attempt to squeeze more money out of you. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through that hassle.
Good for you for being there for your kid anyway--I'm the mother of a three-year-old boy, and I've never received a cent of child support from his father. Or anything else, for that matter--no visits, nothing.

Oh, and for "let your voice be heard?" :
Educate yourself. There is no "typical welfare rat." If you actually do some research instead of parroting partisan catchphrases, you'll learn that:
- The vast majority of welfare recipients are white.
- Over 60% receive benefits for a year or LESS--long enough to get on their feet and no longer.
- Most are 40+ years old.
Poked some holes in your stereotype, did it? If it weren't for childcare assistance and medical assistance, I never would have finished my master's degree--I'd still be working two dead-end jobs to support my son and I. And I wouldn't have earned enough money to pay taxes back into the system that gave me the ability to finish my education. Don't be an idiot. |

Obviously she is using you and public aid as her source of income. I hope she is serious about getting an education and a job but I wouldn't count on it. I know all about the things mothers can get help with. Many times they are much better off than if they worked. For this reason, I think this type of assistance should be modified. A helping hand while transitioning, yes. A lifestyle, no. Not likely to happen with Democrats in office though. But this is exactly what is wrong with the system.
I agree with you about the amount. It does seem like nonsense. But most states have a limit as to how often modifications can be made. So you may get a huge raise soon and she won't be able to touch just yet.
I also would recommend you not pay for anything that isn't ordered. This might sound harsh but your child won't starve and will still have medical care. I think she has it too easy and has no motivation to get off of welfare and get a job. You may have to give her that incentive.
And just to add something: I was once a single mother. I know exactly what it is like. But I got my education and used it. If I have a child, I have an obligation to that child unless I am disabled. And that includes supporting that child financially. Not to be morbid, but anything can happen and I would never depend on someone else to support me or my child. |

Child support is pretty messy. From my experience (which comes from my parents being seperated and hearing about my step dads child support stuff) women just get greedy because they can. I do think child support is good to an extent but the way it sounds she is free loading. I think that if you should have to pay child support you should make sure it goes to things like buying the child clothes or school supplies etc and not for the mother buying herself a little something extra which is what my mom did. Good luck going through this because these things can get pretty messy. |

Take her to court. Get your child and take care of her yourself. Once the courts see that she obviously can't take care of the child right now then they will give her to a more stable parent. Hope it works out. Don't give up either....and document EVERYTHING....especially the extra stuff you have to buy. Keep all receipts. |

I don't know what kind of problems that both of you had while you were together, but it sounds like to me that she is just out to get you for everything that you got. Thank god you got your lawyer looking into this. And chances are with her having a baby with another man, she will probably do the same to him. |

Sounds like your a great father and she's taking advantage of that. Wish my 2 children's father would help pay for them. Been trying to get support out of him for 13yrs now. Good fathers like yourself dont deserve what ungrateful women like herself are doing... I'm glad you have your attorney looking into your situation.. I find nothing wrong in that. Keep up the good fatherhood... and good luck too =) |

There are definately two sides to this story. On the one hand, she is physically raising the children every day and that is a lot of hard work. not only that but the amount of child support you are already paying is not realistically going to cover all the costs of raising a child so it is fair that you have to pay that amount to her. On the other hand, and I tend to take your side on this one because my mother did the same thing to my father and he is to this day still paying child support even though my siblings and myself are adults living out of home, it sounds like you ex-wife is very bitter about your divorce. When people are bitter and angry it tends to take over their sense of rationality, so $312.00 a year doesn't sound to you like its worth a fight, but to her that's an extra $312.00 that is out of your pocket and into hers. So i guess it gets to the point where it's not even about money for the children anymore, it's about getting back at you in any way possible. It's pretty sad actually, I know that if my mother had just forgiven my father and moved on instead of dedicating her life to making him miserable they would both be much happier people today. |

So? Do you know how much it cost to raise a child? 400 a month is nothing. My ex pay all our sons medical bills plus 440.00 a month child support. The responsibilty alone is worth much more!
I also have my child on public assistance... It's there so why not use it? I think having medicaid on my son really helps my ex out a lot... Basically he doesn't pay medical bills.
Your getting by cheap! You need to pay what you owe.. Stop being a cry baby.. Take care of your kid! |
