I apologize if I'm posting this in a wrong forum, but I have a question and a request for advise. I was involved in a hit and run accident in which I was the one that hit and ran. The other car was making a illegal u-turn on a 2 way street on a double-yellow line, I wasn't expecting them to stop and do that abruptly. I really got freaked out by when I hit the other car, i just let my actions get in the way of my thinking. I came home and after realizing what I really did, I went back to the accident scene to see if the other party was still there so I can exchange the appropriate info with them, they were not there. I did have car insurance. The accident was just a minor fender bender in which minimal damage was done to my car (I'm sure of the same with the other car) with no injuries. I came home and called my local police station so I can report this accident because I felt really bad, after being on the phone for about 10 minutes, I couldn't get a live person. I also let my insurance company know. I hung up and received a call from my friend who said that cops came over my house because someone saw me get away. I called the police the second time and while on the phone with a receptionist, police came to my house again. I didn't get arrested and didn't get a ticket. I'm due to appear in court for the accident what can you guys advise on saying or pleading with the judge? my insurance company already took care of the damage for the other car. I would really appreciate your guy's input on this.
