It is called malfeasance of office....if one does not perform the duties of the job properly, or actually does misdeeds, they can be removed from office, whether it is paid or not.

As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society who is in charge of other volunteers, the first thing I have learned is that is sometimes necessary and appropriate to fire volunteers, for the good of the organization and the project...and the sanity of everyone else!

uh...most are paid.

Elected officials can't be fired. They can be removed from office under specific terms.

Appointed officials serve at the pleasure of the body that appoints them.

Volunteers are still subject to oversight and removal like any other employee

You have a whole lot of different concepts mixed together there.

The fact that a position is a volunteer one does not make someone immune to being let go.

Recall elections. Something we should have all the way up the line to the President.
