Convicted of a non violent crime = I don't have the right to protect myself or my family?

I would rather be a convicted felon and be truthful about it - and not hide behind a screen making rude remarks! wow.... must be very unhappy person!

I understand your frustrations. I too am unhappy with the way the law works. Due to certain people representing Americans in office things will never be 100% fair.

Being convicted of a felony might take away some legal rights, yes. Such a person might be barred from owning a firearm, for instance. They would not be prohibited from all defense - if someone takes a swing at their face, they can block. They can buy health insurance to protect their health, home insurance to protect their finances, and so forth.

You are probably not allowed to own a gun anymore, so please don't buy one. But, other than that, you may certainly protect your family and yourself if there is an immediate danger.

Very little information there. Not sure what you are asking, but I will give it a shot.

You do have the right to protect yourself and your family, but you are limited as to the length you can go to do it. For example, if someone walks up to you and slaps you, you cannot pull out a gun and shoot them. Also, once the threat is neutralized, you cannot continue. For example, if someone is a threat, and you knock a knife out of their hands and knock them down, you cannot continue to kick them nearly to death if they have stopped fighting.

In protecting your home, if someone breaks in and has a gun, and you pull a gun on them and they go to leave, you cannot shoot them.

I hope that answers your question.

ADDED: Now I get the question. Everything I said holds except you using a gun.

New name, it must be spring!

Yes you're a felon. you're lucky you aren't forced to carry a bell and shout "unclean unclean."
