Could a doctor be sued for someone committing suicide because of the doctor's total lack of compassion and udder ignorance of the person's life?

They told him that they wouldn't perform the operation because hes too young and active... thing is that he couldn't do any of that 'young and active' stuff unless they fixed him. They refused to return his calls. He killed himself at age 23, refusing to live that way.

There's obviously more to it then that but that's the short of it.

Should his parents or wife be able to get anything from the doctors?

Personally I'd be happy with injuring them in the same way he was and not letting them get it fixed. But the family would like compensation for what the doctors caused him to do and loss of their son/husband.

The Doctor refusing to do the operation cannot be held as the reason he committed suicide. If he didn't like the answer the Doctor gave and wanted the operation,he could have found another Doctor to perform it. Nothing in this case can rest on the Doctor. Doctors are free to refuse to perform operations they feel are unsafe or unnecessary at that time.

I have no idea but good luck to them! I have had horrible experiences with doctors lately and I know how completely rude they can be. I would HOPE that his family could sue. It is terrible what happened and there's no one else to blame but the doctors.

They would've sued them anyway if the operation failed.

I doubt that the doctor could be held liable for the actions of the son. While it is terrible the son committed suicide there is no reason to believe the doctor knew it could happen. I would guess there is a medical reason why they delayed the operation other than the one stated. Sorry for your loss but I really dont see the doctor being held liable.
