Death Row Last Meal?
Find answers to your legal question.

Death Row Last Meal?

Is it true that Federal Death Row prisoners get a last meal, or is it pretty much just on TV and in real life it's just regular prison food? Can the condemned choose his/her last meal? If they can, I'm willing to bet there would be limitations-would a black caviar sandwich be 'too extravagant'?
Is alcohol allowed?

And, out of personal curiosity, what would your last meal and last words be?

Before one is condemned to the death penalty, they get a sort of "last request." So if they want their favorite meal, or a re-run of their favorite TV show, the government gets it for them just to liven their spirits up a LITTLE (very, very, very little...), but I don't know the limitations on food, but there are limitations in general. I.E. You can't ask for a trip to your favorite island getaway. (Nice try, criminal)

I had the most amazing dish of pasta when I was in Italy 3/4 years ago, and if I could get that exact recipe, that would be my last meal. No clue what my last words would be. I think the fun part about those is that they're very candid and can be quite peculiar.

I live in New Jersey, though, so as long as I reside here, I don't have to worry about my last meal or my last words for a LONG time. xo

Yes they do get a last meal but there are limitations to it, you are correct. Everyone has some rights no matter what they were. I would choose a nice big plate of spaghetti.

The last meal is true; it's something that is often mentioned in new articles about people who have been executed. However, in many prisons the last meal is limited to something that can be prepared in the prison kitchen.

I've never really given much thought to what would be my last meal. But since I don't ever plan on doing something that would land me on death row, I'm not all that worried about it.

That is up to the prison. At our local prison, they do get a last meal.
My last meal would be stouffers lasagna and french fries.
My last words would be that I love my hubby and kids & God & Im sorry for whatever I did that brought me here.

You light up my night
yes they have a choice of what they want to eat before they die

what would me my last meal?? I have no Idea I dont even want to think about that..

First of all, the last federal inmate executed was Louis Jones in 2003. The feds don't so a lot of executions.

Second, no alcohol or extravagant orders are permitted. In state prisons where special meals are ordered from outside, the sky is the limit with regards to expense. However, this is very rare.

Typically you order what can be made in the prison chow hall, that is, with the ingredients on hand.

My friend wrote a book called, "Meals To Die For." It explains what certain Texas Death Row inmates had for their last meals.

As for me, I'd have a steak, some pizza, some fresh salad, and a milkshake.

It is a state by state thing, but I think they make a real effort. Where alcohol is illegal in jails, that probably controls that part.

Last meal?

It depends on what they DON'T have in prison. Whatever I missed most. Good pizza, maybe.

Last words?

I love you, I suppose. To family.

If I could choose my last meal, I would have to say i wanted Jambalaya, from a home recepie. This guarantees that they will have to work hard to make it right, and that means more time alive, with a decent meal at the end. I would want sweet tea, and red beans and rice.

Now I'm hungry.

As far as I know its true, it may depend on state and local laws as to limitations set. But I've read in the paper when someone gets executed what they requested and it always said it was provided. As for me prime rib and lobster tail. With a friend banana chimi for desert

Well I think alcohol is not allowed and nothing too outrageously priced or hard to find either.

For me, a nice steak like T-Bone or Porterhouse or even Prime Rib with lobster and crab too. Nice bowl of creamy potato's or baked with chives and butter plus some veggies. Hot cherry pie, ala-mode with vanilla ice cream and strong hot black coffee and water plus milk

My last words would be that I forgive them for what they do and that I am innocent of any crime. I would ask God to forgive them too.

yes, they get a last meal and its what ever they want and there has been quite a bit written on this but i do not know where to find it but i remember someone ordered wild rabbit once and someones last were its a lovely day to die and someones last were kiss my *** maybe someone will have more knowledge of this than me but i know that they do have what ever they want as a last meal i wouldn't take a last meal and my last words would probally be to my son how much i love him

arcticcipher
Yeah they do get a last meal. And I think that they would give the person anything they wanted. "I really doubt that someone on death row would even ask for caviar lol) But I guess they'd give it to them if the person really wanted it. I would choose to have Indian food and hot chocolate if it was my last meal. And my last words would probably be (if I was innocent) F**k you all and (if I was guilty) At least I'll know whats on the other side.

Just Wondering
i dunno.

but i would choose mashed potatoes with gravy, mac n cheese, brocolli and cheese, this awesom chicken my bf makes, and some tacos. lol oh and a baked potato

I think that the availability of the last meal may vary by state, but according to this website, Texas offers its death row inmates just about whatever they want...looks like no alcohol though...

http://www.thememoryhole.org/deaths/texas-final-meals.htm

for me, steak and potatoes, nachos, and pizza!!

Mr. Awesome!
It is real, but it's not too extravagant. Just about every state offers it, but a few do not. There are lots of caveats. Most states require prisoners select from the food already available at the prison, but some will go out and get items for the condemned. Most states have a limit on cost of the meal too.

Provided it was offered, I'd go a porterhouse steak and a loaded baked potato.

i think they get prison food for their last meal because they can't go to like olive garden and have a drink and then get executed?? they did something really bad so i don't think they get treated nice..

They do get a last meal, although the quality and quantity of the food varies from state to state.---Ty Treadwell, author of Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row http://lastsuppersbook.blogspot.com/
