As I understand it, decriminalization makes it sort of like speeding. If you're caught with a small amount (say, under an ounce), you're technically breaking the law, but you would only get a ticket and have to pay a fine (no jail time).
Legalization would make it like alcohol - you could possess/smoke it if you are over a certain age, but you would still not be allowed to drive under the influence. |

No states have decriminalized marijuana. If it was decriminalized it would be as if you get a parking ticket. It would only be out of the criminal courts but not legal. |

massachussets has decriminalized it if its under an ounce its simply a small fine its still illegal but its punished less harsely |

in california, marijuana is legal if it is prescribed for a valid medical condition. other states have similar laws but i live in california and i know it's true here. |
