Did you know that in the uk?

it is acceptable for a complete stranger to take pictures of children whom they have no relationship to?And before anyone disagrees ive had a lengthy talk with the police this morning after finding out that most of the kids on my street including my owns, photos are decorating the walls of an old man.Apparantly he takes the pictures from his window and that is legal. This is wrong dont you think??

He is breaking the law in so many ways and should be hung up by the neck then set alight dirty ol b4stard

and as for ladymoonlight if it was my daughter I would be ultra VIOLENT not Vigilante if the police failed to stop him

lorraine kelly was arrested for having a photo of her own child(albeit in the bath) and was publicly humilliated for it
I cannot take pictures of my daughter at any school event without the express permission from every parent so why the fcuk is he allowed to take pictures of other peoples children
In todays society favour seems to swing toward the peados and criminals because of their human rights, and it makes my blood boil that the police are more interested in arresting people for traffic offences etc, instead of potentially dangerous people like yer neighbor tell yer children what he has done tell them to stay away from him, I hope fer your kiddies sake that the law doesn't yet again wait until it is too late to prevent anything from happening.

I hope you are feeling ok x

Kids are cute. Maybe he likes looking at cute pictures. It doesn't mean he wants to fiddle with them.

If he had his walls covered with pictures of puppies and kittens, would you accuse him of bestiality?

Sounds weird to me, i'd keep an eye on him and if you see him doing anything suspicious i'd phone the police.

What is wrong with the law?

i cannot believe people almost defending this person, if it was totally innocent surely he would ask permission.
this is slightly different but this week a man has been moved out of the street and no one knows were he has been moved to, he has be up in court for child molestation on 3 children, his defence, his words they were 14 and one is pregnant no his, we have had police up the road for a month or so protecting him until he got moved, most of us would have prefered he stay as then we would know where he is and what hes up too. but no just another one let loose, where no one knows him. things need to be done with this country with the people who are the big threat. I would ask him for the photos of your child.

My God has the whole world gone paranoid, he's probably just a lonely old man and the kids pics brighten his day.

For every paedophile out there there are nine hundred and ninety nine good guys.

And if you're that worried just go and ask him, he might just be pleased for some company

That is strange, i was told i cannot take photo's of kids in their Halloween costumes to show my folks back home what they look like, i would have to ask the parents for permission. One lady also told me you are not allowed photographing or video-taping kids in a school-play as well. Strange . If my kids photo was on some strange old-ballie's wall i will demand that he removes them even if i have to get the cops to assist me. Dirty old man

Thats just scary.

Those pics could end up on a paedophile's website or something. A perfect way for some sicko to pick out his next target *shudders*.

The trouble is the police are so loathe to infringe anyone's "human rights" that they don't always put childrens' safety first.

Being ultra vigilant is the only way parents can attempt to keep their children safe.

this country has the worst record in europe for looking after the elderly and from wot i can see it has the worst record for protecting children too. GREAT britain! yeah right!

Yes it is wrong, it's also wrong that the police will do nothing about it until he has actually approached one of these children, then what? They'll warn him off. The next time he may invite one to his house, the police will give him a caution. What will happen next? Guess! And what will the police do? Put him in prison for x amount of years then send him back out onto the streets so he can do it again!

We have got to be living in the worst country when it comes to the justice system, police cannot act until a crime has been committed, never mind trying to prevent the crime in the first place!

maggiepirsq
It may not be illegal, however it sounds pretty wrong to me. Keep an eye on this individual in regards to your children and children in the neighborhood!

Street Ryda
well, depends what he is doing with them. Not a big deal, unless he takes them when the kids are nude.

strummer
That is really wrong. The laws in the uk are so out of order and need to be changed. These days the uk seems so out of touch I mean the whole comment about it not being classed as paedophilia if the child is over 13 it is getting ridiculous.

No you are so right! I once collected my photos from the Chemist and found they were someone elses photos. I took them to the police because they were all of kids leaving school and walking past someones house. Zoom shots of the breasts and legs etc. The Police managed to trace the photographer from the School uniforms and the photos. Dont know what happened after that but hope he was castrated. That was NOT nOrmal!

i is totally wrong. he should not have those pictures. if i was you i would go and get them back. he has no right to have those pictures. why does he need them? for what purpose?

lancashiretasty
maybe hes taking them as a possible asbo application in future years....i can understand yr concern and in a perfect world we would have our permission asked for photographs to be taken but i think that is only if it contravenes copyright..although at my sons school photo cameras were not allowed at the nativity play..maybe you should consult other parents in the area and you could request him to stop.....maybe you should try getting to know him if hes lonely although if he persists i suggest beating his paeodophilic brains all over yr estate...remeber paeodophiles often involve whole famillies in the grooming process

I think a strongly worded letter to the head of your local police force, asking them to investigate a possible paedophile in your area may be in order. I'd want to know his history and I'd advise my children to stay well away.

Mr Sceptic
So what do you want to happen?

Shall we have a ban on taking photographs in public places? What if I want to take photos of my kids in the park and there are other kids in the background? What if someone takes a crowd scene in a shopping street?

Are the pictures indecent? Are the children being harmed?
What about pictures taken of children in newspapers?

This man's motives may be distasteful - I don't know and nor do you. But be aware that any attempt to frame a law to prevent him taking photographs from his window will impact anyone who takes photographs in a public place. If you have any evidence that this man poses a threat to children, there are plenty of other laws available to the police.

It could be the guy is completely harmless and no bad intentions are meant, maybe he just delights in seeing kids playing etc and wants to capture the moment. There are good people out there, not everyone is a paedophile, but I am not surprised at your reaction, as there is a sort of moral panic these days that enyone who looks at a kid has bad intentions.

But the legal side of it is strange, I am surprised at the reaction from the police: I took my 3 year old nephew swimming and was told (quite rudely) by the lifeguard that I was not allowed to take photos of him in the pool. Now that is wierd. They confiscated the camera till we left.

OMG!!!!! thats bad

I to think its wrong. But wait maybe he is a lovely old man and he knows that if he goes and talks to the children people and going to scream "pedophile". Has any one thought of talking to this man and maybe if deemed save to allow him to keep an eye on the children playing and that way he will be made to feel wanted and needed. Before going this rout i would have him checked out completely with the authorities. What is this world coming to that we all jump to the conclusion that this man is bad. Before i get blazed out i would not feel save if this was happening to my child but i would not sit around and do nothing.
