Did you know you never really own land?
Find answers to your legal question.

Did you know you never really own land?

You are just renting it from your government. When you buy a home you are buying the rights to pay rent to the government in the form of property taxes. If you don't pay the rent (taxes) they rip the land away from you even if you paid a million dollars for the home.

This is utter bs. If you buy land it should be yours. Not some way to tax people to death.

i hear you.your government stole all this land from mine.you see when they asked to buy it,my ancestors said"one does not sale the land that we live on,it was put here for al;l to walk upon"hearing this your gov.placed us on reservations and stole everything in site.the only thing they did not do was put wheels on our feet so they could move us more easy each time they found gold on our land and decided to break treaties to take even more from us.

Yes I knew this then if you build you have to get permits..pay fees, have inspections..so they can tax you higher. nice isnt it land of the free ..maybe when you are in kindergarten?

How do you suggest local, state, and federal governments raise the money to pay for all the services people expect and demand? Don't talk about a problem, give a solution.

Jes
Yep, that's just the way it is...

You know, the American Indians didn't believe in land ownership. They are not the only ones either. Me Thinks they were on to something.

Then how would they pay for Education? That system alone takes the bulk. If you would only tax people with children for schools, then I would be the happiest person on the planet. Besides our taxes are tax deductible.

You pay property taxes to fund local services. The money you pay for property taxes is used for services, such as police, fire, parks, recreational facilities, social services, the court system, education and road maintenance. Some of your property tax dollars go to the school district, some to the county, and some to the city. A small amount goes to fund other taxing districts such as mosquito control, metro government, and the Housing & Redevelopment Authority. These are things you take for granted every day.

You do own the land. Unfortunately, unless it's an island that no country cares about, then it's going to fall under the jurisdiction of one country or another. As such, you are always going to have to pay for it whether you like it or not.

I guess, you could always try to take your property and start your own country, but if you were to do that you would probably soon find things much worse than you expected; that is, if you were successful.

One thing you would lose is free access to emergency services, so you could become an easy target for crime and nobody would lift a finger to stop them. The same goes for fire and ambulance. If you have city water you can either say goodbye to it, or they would be able to charge you as much as they want and you wouldn't have a leg to stand on, because you wouldn't have any rights of fair price protection.

Then, if they ever needed your land for something they could just simply invade your little country and take your land from you and not pay you a dime, where as if you were a citizen they would at least buy your property from you.

By the way, supposedly taxes were also suppose to be voluntary, but the IRS more like a big Nazi machine.

Tell me about it. If you find oil or gold on your land it belongs to the "government", even though you are the one paying taxes, you are the one paying the mortgage, and you are the one spending the money on keeping the property up. And then they take 30% out of your gross earnings (or more) and when you fill out forms you have to right your gross earnings.
Greed, Greed, Greed.

and how do you convince people to pay the taxes on that property?

Did you go to public schools? Drive on public roads? Count on the police force to protect you? Hope the fire dept comes if your home is ablaze?

Grow up!

looks like someone does not like paying thier taxes.

Property tax is actually one of the few historic taxes, Other taxes like income tax can even be property discussed as unconstitutional, but property taxes are not.

It is just that the government can make claim against that ownerhsip if you owe them money, Just as others liens can be made if you owe other people money.

Since property is a item of value, its value can have a claiim filed against it for money owed.

I own the dirt.
Yes, maybe I have to pay taxes on the property, but I really do own the dirt. The title only says how large the property is, but it doesn't say how much dirt is on it.
Therefore I own the dirt, and that makes me proud.

As far as taxes are concerned, the Gevernment can tax everything every which way, and you end up paying taxes many times over, and they fritter it away cause they're stupid and don't care. Nevertheless, I own the dirt.

If that makes you angry then read up on "imminent domain" heh.

actually the land is your property.

as long as you do pay your taxes, there is no way anyone can take it away from you, except in some special cases where the greater good demands it... that has to be decided by a judge though, not the government.

of course, if fail to pay your taxes... the government has the legal right to take actions to ensure the payment.... in this case they take your land, but they dont just take it away, they sell it to someone else... or to themselves in some cases... and the money they get for it is yours again, of course, minus the tax and fees an probably fines also...
