Dilemma regarding current job and new opportunity?

I am having a dilema, I recently got a new job, just completed my first week. I have now been contacted by another company for a second and final interview which will be a day long psycometric test. I like the current job but this new opportunityjob is at a more prestigious company and the work is more challenging and involved. The current company I'm working for is a small startup with about 12 employees, it seems the managers really like me. The work is quite relaxing, the pay is ok. The new opportunity is at a medium sized international consulting firm, the work is a lot more challenging and the environment more professional and demanding.
It is very likely that I will quit my current job if I get the other one. How do I handle this situation with minimum damage and how do I get my current manager to understand my point of view?
What should I do? what would you do in my situation
Additional Details
the pay at both jobs are around the same range, so its not about the money.

I don't see the problem. You see your boss once you have a firm written offer. You tell him you're sorry to leave, but you have a terrific new opportunity. You give two weeks notice and do your best to ensure you can turn everything over in good order.
People leave jobs all the time. If you were critical they'd give you a contract. If they think you're indispensable they'll make a counter offer, but don't expect it. I learned long ago that no employee is indispensable. Maybe Steve Jobs.
EDIT: I might add that I quit a job after one day because I got a better offer...it really is about what's best for you. |
